TICKING NOISE AT START UP

Ok so basically what is going on with my truck.

I just bought my first truck, i am 18 years old and i got a deal on it but i know nothing about cars or trucks or engines.

2010 GMC Sierra SLT 5.3

Problem 1

At start up when the engine is cold there is loud like ticking noise coming from the engine, it is not the lifters or anything of that nature i did some research before coming here and people told me it would be the lifters so my dumb self assumed that was it because all the stuff that was happening pointed to that so i had the lifters changed, the cam, and had the AFM or DOD deleted whatever thats called. Bought the kit from brian tooley and had a shop install it and had the truck tuned by another reputable shop. All good, Well the engine still makes that ticking noise when i start it up each morning and after leaving it off a few hours and the engine gets cold the sound comes back.

Problem 2

I have 2 engine codes showing up now after the lifters changed that didnt show up before. Code P0011 and code P0521. The mechanic i used is a good family friend but unfortunately is out of the country for a long time and cannot get ahold of him and i already paid him a substancial amount so i dont want to go pay someone else another hefty amount without knowing exactly what is going on and what to expect. The 0521 code is for the oil pressure sensor/switch

 

The 0011 code is for the camshaft position sensor.  I can't remember exactly what code it was when I had mine done (it may have been P0011), but I had to pull the ECM and send it to Brandon at www.lt1swap.com to tune the VVT out and had to replace the timing cover with one from a non-AFM engine

Sounds like you had a worn lifter that made a pushrod slap a rocker arm, and when you fixed the lifter, they most likely threw the pushrods into a pile and missed the damage.

Or you have a rocker arm bearing that has failed

Or a rocker arm is loose.

Or a bad lifter out of the box (it happens)

Take a mason jar full of diesel fuel and put it into the engine. That’ll quiet it until your mechanic friend returns. Fellow tech at work did that with his Sierra until he got around to fixing the failing lifter. That took 6 months lol. Was quiet as a church mouse though.
