Headliner Replacement

I just did my '90 silverado reg cab last year. The fabric had separated from the foam backing. The headliner is held in across the front with velcro. Ease it down, peel off the fabric, take a putty knife of something similar and scrape the old dried foam backing off the board. You can get new fabric at a lot of fabric stores or by it from an upholsterer. Then you need a can of spray adhesive. Spray the board, lay the fabric on it, wrap the edges and let it dry. I think my total cost was around $25.

good luck. :uhoh:

how are the panels held on in the back? Obviously you have to take the coat hangers, seat belt braces, etc off. are there little clips behind there? I don't wanna start pulling and end up breaking $hit

To really do it right without breaking anything you need to completely remove the side panels in the ext. cab portion.

1.) Remove the rear seat, it has a bolt on each bracket with either 13mm or 15mm heads

2.) Remove the armrests in the back. Take out the ashtrays to reveal 2 screws. Remove them and pull upward.

3.) Remove front seat belt retractors (Requires a t-50 torx wrench)

4.) Remove the bottom half of the back panels, there are 4-5 screws holding each one, then pull putward to disengage clips.

5.) Remove backwall panel by pulling outward on the bottom and then pushing upward

6.) Remove A-pillar trimby pulling down and away from pillar.

7.)Now you can remove the upper side trim by pulling outward after you have removed the hanger screws.

8.) You can now remove the back ceiling panel by puling down on the front and back.

9.) Remove the center overhead light and the sunvisors (and overhead console if equipped) and you can now take the headliner out. It has some velcro-like clips towards the front edge. Make sure you don't seperate then from the headliner itself. Either pry both sides from the hole or seperate the 2 pieces. You'll see what I mean.

Its kinda hard to get a ext. cab headliner in and out of the cab on a 2-door with the front seats in. It can be done, just make sure you don't crease the board when you are putting it back.
