2009 Chevy transmission upgrade

I have a 2009 Silverado 2500 4x4 6.0 and want to install a tranny out of a 2015 Silverado. It’s a 6l90 transmission I’m taking out and installing. Will it work or will I need programming? Thanks!

If they are both 6L90s, at the very least the new one will need to be flashed to your VIN.  No, wait, they might be using different computers.  Better check on that.

Programming is a must do no matter what. The TCM must be programmed if the transmission is swapped.

 

The above is correct. The 2009 truck is a E38 computer and a 2015 truck is a E78 computer. This is assuming that both are 2500/3500 trucks with the 6.0 gas engine. Off hand I don't know if the 2015 TCM is compatible with an older computer in your truck.
