factory remote keyless entry install

Hi, I'm new to this site, and just finished rebuilding

my 98 C1500 2wd reg.cab, by replacing the frame,

and would like to install the factory keyless entry

system, and I need to know if the factory wire harness

is there in my truck, that plugs into the remote moduale!

I have already removed the mod. and key FOB from a truck

in the junkyard.

I tryed to install in the reverse order of removing the

one from the yard, but the light timer is in the place

where the remote mod should go, and this has a smaller

connector leading to it, so I know that won't work.

I looked for a different plug to use, but had no luck

in finding one without taking the whole dash apart.

I find it hard to believe, that GM would make a different

harness for different options like this, after all, I have

seen that cars built without power mirrors, extra speakers

and the like, still had the wiring and connectors there to

install those options.

So, my question to all of you with firsthand experience,is,

is the wiring and connector plug hiding in my dash, or is it

a bigger problem than I thought, trying to install this?

Thanks, for any help you may be able to supply.

Come on guys, did I ask a question to hard, or is it

something that's never been tried before?

Thought there might have been some knowledge here,

instead of a bunch of idle talk.

Thanks anyway, I'll keep looking for my answer elsewhere.

I have dissasemble and reassembled tons of 98 dashs.

Hard as it may be to believe, there are different harnesses for the different options. Dependant on what options your truck has you have different....well...options. If your truck is a Silverado/SLE you could replace the power door lock/window dash harness with a factory one that has the plug for the keyless. If your truck is a Cheyenne/SL not much you could probably do the same thing, just leaving the power window part unhooked. There are a few Cheyenne/SL that have factory power locks, I have only seen 2 trucks like this ever, they have a module with a different plug in the keyless module location.

The problem with replacing the entire harness is it requires dash removal.

The place to check for the plug for the keyless is on the right hand side of the steering column support. there is a black metal bracket the holds the module. If you don't have the factory system I doubt the plug will be there though.

If you think a different harness for that option is crazy, the seat configuration can change the dash harness too. If you have any more questions let me know. I can help with most things on 95-98 trucks.
