 I posted this topic over on another message board but This one seems to get more use so I thought I'd give it a try here. What type of tool box do you have in the bed of your truck? What should you look for when purchaseing one? How hard are they to install? :D

Ryan I have an SEC made by better built in my company truck and I like it. I like the single lid and i have the deep model.I lined the inside of it with neoprene rubber to prevent suff from sliding around in there and as you know aluminum will turn everything black after rubbing and all.My last truck had a delta and I find this one much better.Had a Rawson Koening one and had alot of trouble with the latches....hope this helps

Can't help with in the bed boxs. I use my truck for work and need all the bed space I can get. I have 8' top mount Readings on each side. Really gives a lot more cargo space and easy access to all tools. Install pretty easy, strip of some rubber tape on the rail top, than bolt them down. You can then mount your rear window guard (another must have in a work truck) and your racks to the boxs.

the SEC and better built are more entry level boxes. they go under other names as well. the ones at home depot and tractor supply are also better built. personally i would go with a rawson, weather guard or a ranch hand box. all the of these have reinforced lids and good locking systems. they also have some theft protection. the SEC and BB boxes have latches held on by 4 exposed rivets. very easy to get into.

I have a DeeZee chest type box that is in my truck. I like the DeeZee Gold Series the best. The diamond tread has a clear coating on it that will not let it oxidize like other brands over time.

A good durable box, I have had a few and love them.

I just picked up a UWS for $300, much better than the no name brand I had on my old truck.

Smooth operation of the latches and it came with tool holders built in to the sides.

On My 02 Z71 Silverado, I put in a black, Better Built, single lid low profile box. So far I like it. I also used thier mounting kit so that I didn't have to drill holes to secure the box.

I have a cheaper above the rail toolbox. I got it at tractor supply for about $200. I think it is made by DEEZEE. It is not the top of the line. The lock and shock is very cheap and the top if very weak. I keep my tow strap, air pump, battery cables, etc. in it so the inside of my truck isn't cluttered. I don't have to open/close it everyday so it works perfect for me. It keeps my stuff dry from the weather and somewhat safe from the thugs so I am happy with it.

It was easy to install. It came with two j-bolts that hook on the inside lip of the bed rail and come up through the inside of the box so nobody can take it off unless the lid is open.

There are a few pictures in the link in my sig.

I bought a UWS single lid box almost 2 years ago. It seems to be fairly sturdy and well-made. The tool holders on the sides are very useful. The only thing I don't like about it is the sliding tool holder. I had to use a cord to keep it from sliding from side to side even with stuff in it.
