Tailgate gap

[Mercracing]

I only noticed this yesterday after about a year of ownership. With the tailgate closed, when I look through the rear view mirror at the tailgate, I can see daylight on either side! Is this normal? Should there be a gasket or something there? Thanks in advance.

I have the same opening on my 16, 4x4.
I thought it was normal.

My 93 Silvy had a much smaller gap than my 2012 Sierra.

The tail gate weighed about twice as much.

Normal.  There are companies that make gap guards if it bothers you.
