Or there are always salvage yards.

Cables should be $19 a pair new from the dealer.

 

Put some clear silicone in the ends to seal them up properly - my replacement cables are starting to rust inside already

But I hadn't thought of NAPA, I;ll try there.

I fixed my Silverado cables. I took them off peeled back the protective coating and soldered the connections between the wire and the connector. No water can now get in to start the corrosion. To make it look factory after the work was done I slipped some shrink tubing over the wire before I soldered it. Then I just pulled the shrink tube down and used a powerful hair dryer to shrink the tube . Looks factory and I do not have to worry about the corrosion.

I had seen/read that GM is recalling the trucks for the tailgate cables. I don't think you are mistaken...
