2004 Silverado 1500 tranny issue...

The evening before this happened, I took my truck out to gas it up. No problem at all with the transmission. The next morning, I was going to take it to the VA hospital and when I went to put it in gear, there was nothing!!! The gear shift felt like it was free floating... I shut off the engine and had to set the ebrake as there was now no park..I tried to restart the engine..nothing...that is where I am at. Never had any issues with the tranny since owning the truck..What am I looking at here?

sounds like the the shift cable is broken/disconnected.
