Vinyl durability?

I have a 2017 LT Z71 but would like to swap to the LTZ grille.  The entire grille assembly is too expensive for me to justify what is purely a cosmetic upgrade.  With that, I'm thinking about attempting to put "chrome" vinyl over the three black bars on the grille to achieve the same look.

 

I have limited vinyl experience and I have a couple questions.  Can vinyl be applied to a shape like that with some pretty sharp edges?  Will vinyl hold up in the grille where it will encounter typical road debris and abuse daily?

I have been looking at the snap on overlays, too, but have some concerns about how they will look. Has anyone tried them? Thoughts?

i have a 2014 that i put snap on overlays - they've worked great.

That looks great! Did those snap into place or are they held with double-sided tape? Is there anything you don’t like about them?
