I just put an order in for a LT Trail boss and put the power exhaust in, I just saw a friend of mine that has the same package when you start the truck it sounds awesome, less then a minute you can barely hear the exhaust. Why does it get so quiet with an upgraded exhaust? Thank in advance for all in info...

I think the idea is to offer an exhaust that sounds good at startup and acceleration, but tones down on the highway. The GMPP system is essentially the Borla Touring system and does a great job of this. I had it on my K2 5.3 and I really liked it. I've been looking for exhaust options on my new truck and I may go the muffler-only route this time to save money.

I just had the GMPE put on my truck today. It’s a perfect fit for what I wanted... moderately loud when I’m hard on the throttle but unnoticeable when cruising.

These new trucks with dual exhaust all bark pretty well on cold start, even with stock exhaust.

Part of it is the cat warm up that is put into the calibration. They basically put negative timing into the calibration so that part of the explosion happens outside the cylinder and goes into the exhaust heating up the cat converters faster. This is an emission things because vehicles must warm up the cat as soon as possible to meet new emissions standards.

Is there anything that can be done to keep it sounding like the cold start all the time?

Closest you can get with ease is to cut your muffler out.

On the calibration side, no not really. Negative timing all the time will just melt the cat converters and burn the exhaust valves once things really get hot.
