Tune after Whipple SC question

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, asking a question for my Dad so please excuse my lack of knowledge.

He recently had a Whipple Super Charger and Kooks longtube headers installed on his 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 6.2l.

We can defiantly tell there is power missing that a proper tune should correct. Is taking the truck to get dyno tuned the only option?

I believe he has a diablo sport hand held tuner with the onboard gauges on screen but was told that he cannot use it.

Also after picking up the truck today from the shop the gauges started acting funny and gas gauge started to read empty. Plugged in a OBD2 scanner and theres a few check engine light codes for maf sensor and o2 sensor.

All help will be highly appreciated!

The tune that comes with the supercharger is good and will work just fine but if you want it to be really dialed in you must get a custom tune. You also would need to have the transmission controller (TCM) unlocked and have that tuned for best performance.

The Diablo Sport tuner is something he should just sell, there is no use for that thing anymore. Only a shop using HP Tuners can tune the PCM and TCM. A new tune will cost a few bucks though. It's roughly $700-800 because the TCM has to be sent into HP Tuners for the unlock service and the license costs is $400 for the PCM/TCM.

Can't help on the engine codes, best to check the battery connections and ground and reset any codes to see what comes back. Take it back to the shop that did the install, it's on them if there is problems because those Whipple kits are suppose to be plug and play.

Yes there is a Virtual Torque editor and the majority of vehicles won't need to touch it.

Being that these are a torque based controller one of the keys in making sure that the actual engine torque is very close to the predicted engine torque.
