Lifter tapping noise? (Gas causing)

Is it possible that a lower(87 octane) compared to higher(89-90) octane gas can cause lifter tapping noise?

It wont cause lifter tick. Could potentially cause pre-ignition/knock depending on the recommended fuel for your engine. The cleanliness/mechanical state of your engine could be a factor too. If its a new noise and it happens all the time now, I would take it in to the dealership.

Good thing I got a extended warranty for 5 years...

I hate the thought of having it in there constantly ( tranny, motor, infotainment screen) but I'll get my money worth out of extended warranty in the end if need be.( On a positive note I'll get to drive a loaner on them while they spin there wheels trying to keep up with the list!)
