What did you learn to drive in?

2 door Blazer here. I had "driven" other vehicles, but not on a road. The Blazer was the first thing I took on the road.

'66 Chevy Impalas. We had two of them, nearly identical blue 2-doors with black vinyl interiors. My dad bought one and my brother bought the other while stationed in South Carolina in the Navy. We had no idea they were the same until my brother came home on leave. There was one difference in options: my brother's had A/C and because of that the antenna mast was located on the rear fender rather than the front.

A '78 Vette...a Chevette that is! :rolleyes::sigh:

Anybody remember those? What a chick magnet that was for a highschool kid!! :cool:

I remember a neighbor in 1980 bought a new Chevette diesel. Looks & speed - not.

89 Ford F250 4x4 (dad's last "GOOD" Ford)

I then bought my 78 Monte Carlo and drove that when I was close to taking my license.

I learned with my dad's 1950 Buick, the one with the big chrome rails in front of the radiator and in-cab adjustable antenna that was located in the roof's center.

Big old beast (wish I had it). Had a standard transmission and I spent days learning how to work that thing.

I learned to drive in my uncle's '56 Chevy "210" - 2 door coupe. It had a 3-speed manual transmission with the shift on the column. Six cylinder too. Not a bad looking car - two tone paint - light green and white. :rolleyes:

Mom's 85 Celebrity wagon...moss or pea green(ugly pos, but it was purchased used for a college transport for my brother's crap...replaced a BIG red 77 Malibu wagon- had the 350 I believe...would've been fun to drive) and dad's 88 Cutlass Ciera...midnight blue with a v6...that car was perfect. The seats felt as good when he got rid of it in 96 as they did the first time I rode in it. He got it in January of 89 as it was the last 88 on the lot and fortunately happened to have the 6 vs. the 4...his 86 Century had a 4 and that was a dog on roadtrips...Memories :rolleyes:

I learned on a 1974 Chevy Bel Air Station Wagon with the 350. It was mom's car and she didn't work so it barely had 60K on it when it was 8 years old. Rust is another story. The spare tire would fall out if kept in it's stock location and if you lifted up on the 'floor mat' in the back row, you could watch the street go by under your feet.

Brings back memories of how we used to get rid of empties... We used to drop them out of the spare tire compartment (the bombay). Why the cops never pulled over a station wagon with 8 or 10 teenagers in it and beer cans coming from underneath the car, I'll never know. :rolleyes:
