I just bought a 2021 1500 LT so this is very interesting to me too as I am going cap shopping.  I do not ahve advanced trailering so do I need to be concerned on wiring still? Kinda nervous as it a big leap from my 2006 to 2021 and I hear all these wiring issues that can pop up. The above seems to be for a 2019 but what should  I be asking to make sure they know what they are doing? Testing y trailer hookups before I get the cap this weekend so really want to make sure they wire it right once I get one.

The 2019 plus trucks are grouped together for wiring. Probably will change once again when the 2022 models come out. Leer makes a harness for the trucks that don’t have the advance trailing package. Otherwise you have to splice into your wires to make everything work on a truck with the advance trailing package. Leers parent company makes other caps so they all use the same harness.

My Leer dealer was extremely wary of the plug and play harness. He said the old ones caught fire (can confirm this online) and the new ones worked spotty at best. He said they were very poor quality.

Had a Leer plug and play harness on my 2018 Sierra and never had a problem. Now overall quality of the caps that’s a whole different subject.

I hear all the horror stories, I'm on my 3rd Leer and I have been pleased with the quality of all of them

I have the Leer plug and play harness in my 2016, but when the dealer wanted to splice into my 2019's wiring I said no.  This was in 2019, so I wasn't interested in being a guinea pig.  I got a tonneau cover instead.  No problems with the plug and play harness in my 2016 after almost five years.  I have the advanced trailering system in my 2019, but I did not know about the harness incompatibility issue with that.  My big concern at the time was my power down/up tailgate, which could only be operated with the canopy back glass in the open position.  Every canopy has a lip on the rear glass that prevents the tailgate from being opened, which is fine if you have a manually operated tailgate, but doesn't work with the power tailgates.  I imagine this will be resolved at some point in time in the future, but it wasn't in 2019.

Would you not just have to open the window first? I know it makes using the console button useless but if you are opening it anyway not sure how big of an inconvenience that is. My cap is on order so will find this out shortly I am guessing :)

I am researching issues, including the plug and play harness issues for a 2022 Silverado Crew Cab, w/ the multi flex tailgate, 3.0 Duramax, with the advanced trailering package.  Leer states plug and play is now available and trouble free (trust but verify).  The Leer keyless entry was also ordered for my truck topper.

I also want to make sure they are not poking holes in all my wires to figure out how to wire the topper.

My last concern is the interior power for the interior lights and the triple cigarette lighter package.  The Leer dealer is insisting they run those wires ALLLLLLLLL the way to the battery.  I told the dealer for that power source he was out of his ever loving mind and that he would do no such thing!  I told the dealer that when he can prove that they have the correct plug and play 7 pin adaptor harness that they (Leer) state is now available, they need to grab the interior power from Pin #4 of the 7 pin adaptor.  Pin #4 is 12 Volt positive constant hot all the time to keep the trailer house battery charged when towing.  I thought running the power ALLLLLLLL the way from the front of the truck instead of from behind the rear bumper was the stupidest thing I had ever heard of.

There is no freaking way I need an extra 30' of wire run to the front of my truck that can act as an antenna to pick up signals from the ECM and all the electronic wizardry in these newer vehicles and be re-transmitting it the length of the truck causing RF (radio frequency) issues and having all the voltage loss from going all the way to the battery.  Leer should have short training video's for their installers.

They also need to teach their installers to double the gasket at the bulkhead ({top} front of the bed) where there is always a leak because the bulk head metal front is lower than the side plastic bed rail covers.  I will also verify with the local Chevrolet dealership the correct harness color codes for the wireless remote wires.  I know they source the connection from under the driver front sill plate.

    • Hello All!   My 2019 Colorado 3.6 LT, 4WD Crew Cab has approximately 77,500 miles and I recently began experiencing the well-known transmission shudder between about 30 and 65 mph. The problem had worsened to the point that I could no longer attribute it to road conditions - and I had decided to bring the truck to the dealer - when recently, I experienced a sudden loss of power while driving at maybe 40 MPH. Several warning lights flashed, the “Check Stabilitrack” message appeared, and the Check Engine, Stabilitrack, and Traction Control icons remained illuminated. The truck regained driving power, but it stayed in a low gear with unusually high RPMs for the speed. (limp mode?) Because I was only about two miles from home, driving slowly, I was able to make it back and run an OBD-II scan, which showed fault codes U0101, P0700, and U0100. My next trip in the truck was to drive it to the dealer the following day. That trip began normally, but after about a mile I experienced another loss of power, along with the same warning lights and the same “Check Stabilitrack” message. As before the truck remained driveable, but again operated at an abnormally high RPM-to-speed ratio and seemed stuck in a single gear. About a mile later, the dashboard lit up once more, this time displaying “Check 4WD.” Soon after that, I arrived at the dealer. I have verified that the truck still has its original factory transmission fluid, which means it has never received the corrective fluid exchange outlined in GM Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-355.  That was Thursday of last week and I've heard nothing yet from the dealer.    According to Technical Service Bulletin #18-NA-355 and the build date of my truck, my truck should have the newer LV fluid. I've done a little research and read something about a problem with the wiring harness as well.   Anyone have an insights into this situation?  Thank you!!

    • Did you even read this article?   Even the title of the article says "U.S.-Iran Deal Doesn’t Mean a Swift Return of Oil and Gas Flows"   Remember, crude oil prices are based on FUTURE purchases by the oil companies.  Gas prices are based on FUTURE purchases by the station.  This article stated that many of the oil producing nations have to restart their processes to get the oil produced.  Then the oil has to be shipped to wherever.  And it doesn't get there overnight.  And most of that oil is not coming here. Check out this site:  https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10621   A graph will pop up to show where the US imports their oil from.  Notice that there isn't a lot of import from OPEC and Iraq.  Most of the US import comes from Canada. The US oil produces are selling their oil on the open market, which is why the US fuel costs went up.  So you're correct, the US oil companies are going to slow walk the price downward.
