Anyone in Detroit area have a Corsa Exhaust?

I'm ready to purchase a Corsa exhaust system (#14222) for my 03 Denali XL. Before I do, however, I'd really like to find someone and experience it first hand. Any Denali owners around Detroit have this system? Since tbyrne has a sale going until 12/21/03, I'd like to order one by then. Thanks for your help.

You definitely need to hear one in person because their website's sound bytes does not include normal cruising.

I tried the Corsa with my Z71 and my input would be just a "heads-up" for you as part of many other inputs from others that you get. Definitely try to hear one in person at cruise and at WOT.

With my truck, the commercials were correct. There was no interior resonance. There was a bit of a whooooom sound in the interior when going up a hill at just before the passing gear kicks in but it is tolerable.

My MAJOR objection to the CORSA with my Z71 was the ratty, raspy sound it made at moderate acceleration. It wasn't the deep rumple that I was expecting. Indeed, just minor acceleration in traffic, in the city, would give a "straight-pipes" sound. This nice $31,000 truck sounded like a red-neck, East Texas bubba truck and I hate that.

I also had friends who would ask me what was wrong with my truck because of the sound. Everyone thought I had a hole in the muffler, or a tear in a pipe, or a loose pipe.

My CORSA was assembled correctly, had no leaks, and honestly was beautiful to look at. The quality of workmakship was incredible. Indeed, I kept the outgoing Corsa exit pipe and the tips after reinstalling my OEM muffler.

But, I was so disappointed that it gave me the ratty bubba sound at partial throttle and WOT.

Now this was on MY truck, with the kit that was shipped to me. Maybe they cleaned the sound since my purchase.

And don't ask the kiddos how it sounds. They will claim it sounds FINE. The LOUDER the BETTER. Heck, just run straights, old man.

I have them on my 01 Z-28 And I love the sound, The biggest thing I like is , that there is NO DRONE with Corsa, I had borla on my Camaro, and the drone at cruise was annoying,

This spring I'm getting a set for my 03 Silverado.

Thanks for the replies.

Irymal, your post really has me thinking about whether the Corsa is the way to go. I know that on the weekends I would love to have the raspy sound of the Corsa - as long as the interior resonance is not too bad.

I'm just concerned that during the week, when I'm playing office executive, the constant noise under moderate throttle would become annoying. This is my everyday driver, and I didn't buy a $50,000 truck to look like a "bubba".

I had a Corsa exhaust on a Corvette ZO6 I owned for a while, and as a Sunday driver, it was perfect. I really became addicted to the sound, and that's why I'm looking at it for the Denali.

I guess what I'm looking for is some distinction between the Denali that I drive, and the dozen other soccer mom Denali's I pass everyday in my travels.

As I said, I'd really like to hear one in person - not just on Corsa's website - so I can make an informed decision. Anyone??

Try not to think of my as a guy that sells Corsa for a few minutes

Here is something that I posted in another thread earlier -

I used to like aftermarket exhausts that could be heard before the car/truck was even seen. Now I like systems that are fairly quiet but still produce results. The Corsa exhausts are like having two different systems at the same time. They are pretty mello with limited to no interior resonance. You can hear a slighty deeper exhaust sound while cruising down the highway but it's not loud at all. When the gas pedal goes to the floor it's a while different story. The system comes to life and lets people your that your truck isn't stock.

I'm waiting for Corsa to finish their dual rear exit system for the 8.1 Silverado and I might be sending my Suburban over to them so they can use it to set up their 8.1 Suburban systems. If Corsa wasn't going to make a system for these trucks I'd keep the stock catback. This is just my personal preference though. I'm either getting older or have driven to many cars/trucks with loud exhausts :D

lrymal: Did you talk to Corsa about the problem you were having?

No, I didn't. I guess I assumed this "straight-pipe" WOT sound was part of the design and just let it go at that. I recall listening again to their website sound clips and after comparing mine with theirs, I thought it was close. Just that when you hear their bytes on a dinky computer speaker vs. the real thing, you begin to realize it is tough to get a real comparison.

I wish they had done similar tests using the OEM exhaust for a reference against the Corsa.

Just thought i would add an interseting little tid bit.. Im the guy who bought the Corsa muffler from Irymal on Ebay earlier this year. When i went to have it installed (on my 2000 Z71 with 5.3) i told the guys at the muffler shop to make sure to cut the factory muffler off so that it could be re-installed if i didnt like the Corsa . I thought that i would not like the "raspy' sound that IRYMAL had described in his earlier posts on the for sale forum, before he moved it over to ebay.

Anyway needless to say after it was installed i loved it! the best way i can describe it is its very mellow ,not REAL loud when you get on it,but just enough to let you know its not factory! and on the freway, you cant even tell its there! and thats exactly what i wanted! For comparison purposes i will say its sounds sort of like the Dodge factory exhaust on the Rams, which i think sounds pretty good. the sissy quiet mufflers that come on our trucks are pitiful! I guess the whole point to this long drawn out story is... your doing the right thing by wanting to hear one first because like they say one mans trash is another mans treasure! And that definitly applies in this case since i got the muffler(only) from IRYMAL for $100!! GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, he got a good deal from me, a literal embarrassing steal which I'm so happy that it is now public for the world to read. :nono:

I couldn't sell it locally due to the raspy, ratty, bubba redneck straight-pipes sound at partial throttle and WOT. Maybe it is something with the '03s, or with only mine. Lord knows I tried to sell it locally. If I could have sold it for just the quiet cruise sound it exhibits, it would have moved rather quickly at a higher price.

I did some google searching with the words "corsa raspy" and found about two pages of links, I think. Just knew there would be a lot of complaints. NOPE. MOST loved the raspy sound and preferred the raspy sound over the Flowmaster and Magnaflow. One guy bragged how it sounded like straights to him, but now he had a quiet interior. One site had a flame-war between the Borla and Corsa posters with the Vipers and Corvettes. Jeeezeeee, talk about some high dollar salary folks.... slinging into a war over exhaust systems. One of the messages has a Borla guy claiming the Corsa fella's sound reminded him of the UPS truck driving in the driveway. I'd love to say that is made up, due to the heat of the flaming there, but at least with MY truck, I'd have to agree. I can guarantee that just a slight acceleration with the Corsa in my driveway would allow me to hear my truck inside the house, just like straights. Would like to stress again that my Corsa was assembled perfectly, tightened as it should have been. No holes, no leaks. Sounded GREAT at idle with a nice burble.

And for what it is worth, most sports vehicle enthusiasts might prefer RASPY. Read this and do a search for "raspy". Uh, don't drool too much over the Corvette in the story:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/...2_0306_spdvett/

So for me, with my old ears, I hate raspy, redneck sounding exhausts. I want the deep sound. No resonance. :sigh: Wonder what it is with factory mufflers that kills the resonance?

I put Corsa on our Escalade, the "sport" version was just to loud at times, I replaced the "sport" muffler with the "touring" muffler, that was the perfect choice for our Escalade, it has a nice sound at idle (the stock system made no noise at any rpm) no interior noise at all, and when you hit the throttle you get a nice bark from the exhaust.

I don't have a Corsa, but since you are in the detroit area, you may want to consider contacting Great Lakes Customs in Mt. Clemens (586) 463-7646

Greg is one of the best in this area when it comes to custom exhaust. Many of the local tuners use him exclusively.

He put the Flowmaster on my Sierra a couple of years back :sigh:
