Anyone use these on a 14-18?  I searched and haven’t found a lot of info for these year models.  I found these while searching for an alternative to waiting for bilstein 6112s.  Seems nobody knows when the 6112s will be back in stock.  I know they make quality stuff, I think the 6112 springs are from them actually, but just wondering if anyone has first hand experience.  


I also looked at fox 2.0 but I like that the eibachs can actually be adjusted on truck.  Steel bodied vs aluminum body.  I also think the shocks themselves are valved different?  Digressive vs linear?  What does this mean ride wise?

Buy once, cry once. I've asked myself these questions and spent a long time pondering the best setup. I've got some professional goals this year and if I hit them, my wife agreed to buy me a set of Thuren's custom King 2.5s :)

 

Digressive will have more low speed force and then it bleeds off quickly as shaft speed increases. Small bumps, cracks, road reflectors - you will feel all of this because of that damping force. 

 

Linear is just like sounds. At low shaft speeds the force is low and increases linearly with speed. These, along with progressive, are widely considered to be the most "plush" on the street. 

 

There is a tradeoff between handling though, with digressive usually providing that sports car feel. That's where larger pistons come in, like King 2.5s. They might be valved pretty loose down low, but there's so much piston surface area that they still provide good handling characteristics.

Thanks, that makes sense.  I may just wait for the 6112.  A bit more reading leads me to believe they might be the best option for me.  It seems they maybe take advantage of the larger shock body and it’s increased damping ability and pair it with a bit lighter, more linear spring to provide a balanced on road ride and decent off road ability.  I just can’t see myself taking the next step to a midrange full custom setup, especially given its age and mileage.  One thing is for sure, the stock shocks are way past done and whatever I chose will undoubtedly be an improvement.

Something you might consider is the kit that's purposed for the Tahoe....it uses a 600 lb spring vs a 750 lb spring. I called Bilstein some time back and got that information. Even with CCSB 4x4 I wouldn't hesitate using 600 lb springs. I would just mount them on the first perch and use a lower spacer to get the desired lift. 

 

Or if you do use the truck kit, you probably wouldn't have much downside to removing your sway bar. Again, digressive plus piston area plus spring rate...all of that will help with handling potentially making the sway bar "unneccessary".

That’s good info as well.  I do have a lower spacer installed now, along with the accompanying rear block.  I was hoping to match up the stance pretty close to current to avoid having to change out the rear block.  The lighter spring def might help smooth out the ride some.  Your saying use the block and stock height slot to avoid preloading the lighter spring, did I understand that right?

 

 I know our 2015 2wd LTZ suburban rides good on hwy.  But the magnetic ride isn’t really a fair or appropriate comparison.  But i assume it prob has the lighter springs.

To do it right, you'd need to know the stroke length of the 6112 shock and what spring perch gets you, under load, at 50% travel. For example, if it's a 4" stroke, and the lowest perch (stock height) puts you at 65/35 (rebound/compression) then more preload should be used to get it closer to 50/50. The only way to figure that out is by trail and error. 

 

Of course, though, even if you got it preloaded perfectly you would throw things off a bit with the lower spacer. 

 

If I recall my conversation with Bilstein, they said that "most 6112 users" have added front end accessories like winches, bumpers, light bars, bigger wheels/tires, so they still use a heavy spring. That's why I, personally, lean towards a lighter spring because I don't any of that lol. 

 

Also, food for thought, the Fox 2.0 kit, the one that works on any 07-18 Tahoe, Suburban, Truck, etc.... guess what spring rate it uses? 600 lb. :)

Doesn't look like they make one for Tahoe/Yukons. Eibach is digressive monotube too. Except with a better, more traditional coilover design. In fact, I'd bet you could easily swap a different spring onto Eibach's setup!

The Tahoe/Yukon 6112s have 100mm of stroke, so basically 4 inches. 

 

Stock has 3.22" looks like.

Halo has partnered with Elka. Looks like very good quality from the bit of research I've done on Elka. Just called Elka (Canadian company) and Frenchy answered haha - they use progressive valving. Makes sense considering this language from their website: "Strong ramping effect for extra bottom-out protection over large dips and washes". 

 

700 lb spring and it looks like it has a lot of travel! I'll get with Halo to find that out. But at $900 that would probably be my choice over Eibach.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.  
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.  
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
