Go get a 160 T stat at O'rielys. It will still run in closed loop and the dynamic will be around 185 if your cooling system is fine.

make sure your clutch is working on your fan and its engaged.

Where you are, you can run that 160 all year around. good luck

Sounds like the stop leak is causing issues in the radiator possibly.  Like posted above did you do a good flush to get it all out?  Also you might have to much of concentrate coolant.  You want a good 50/50 mix.  A strong concentration of coolant doesn't dissipate heat as well as a 50/50 mix.  Pure water is the best but it can't be used due to freezing and corrosion issues.

Flush the motor twice.  Seemed to be running clear.  Put the 160 thermostat in.  Still running hot.  Water temp dropped from across the radiator is 178 down to 104. New radiator cap (20 psi).   We're at a total loss here.
