General Motors is announcing a new limited warranty beginning with the 2022 model year that will provide coverage for the seat belt and airbag system for 6 years or 72,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The Restraint System Limited Warranty is applicable to qualified 2022 and beyond Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac passenger cars, light duty trucks, and select medium duty trucks sold in the U.S. and Canada. Investigate Vehicle History (IVH) will show the new “Restraint System Limited Warranty” in the Applicable Warranties section for qualified vehicles.

Applicable Limited Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklets highlight the new limited warranty as shown in the attached screenshot:

Covered components include all vehicle air bags and seat belt assemblies (buckles, retractors, lap and shoulder belts, pretensioners). Applicable labor codes will display a new Coverage Code “R” in the GM Labor Time Guide beginning in July 2021, making it easy for dealers to identify covered components.

Please share this new limited warranty information throughout your dealership and educate customers as you review vehicle warranty coverage during your delivery process. If you have questions, please contact the Dealer Business Center using the convenient Live Chat feature on GlobalConnect.

Interesting... I doubt if a death occurs after that timeframe because of a faulty safety component this warranty will matter, they will still get sued and be responsible for it?  At least that seems to be the precedent for other cases like that today.
