Not exactly on your topic, but my wife and I once had a dog, a little wire hair Terrier, who would spin around in place whenever he got excited or anxious.

We think this was because he had been confined in a very small cage when he was young, and that's all he could do.

Anyhow, he ALWAYS went clockwise.

So one day we got to thinking: "If we took him down to Australia, would he start to spin in the other direction?"

I was under the impression ( and maybe it's false) that toilets spun in different directions in different hemispheres!!!

YEs, they do flush different ways in different hemispheres. Clockwise in the northern and counterclockwise in sounthern.

[the massive currents in the ocean work the same way, we've been reviewing it in my college level[AP] Envrionmetal science class]

So.....

Your house is

a) huge beyond description

b.)sits on a starnge current/gravational warp, possibly a miniture black hole

c.)possessed

LOL

AHH! so the assumption about toilets in hemispheres is looking wrong! OH NO! I've been misled by my peers and my 3rd grade teacher who lived in Aulstrailia.

UMM.. its all dependent on the manufacturer.. its on www.snopes.com somewhere.. it has nothing to do with the coriolis (?) effect. toilets are too small to be effected by it. Soooo yes toilets in australia DO flow in the opposite direction, but its because toilets there are made that way... not cause of the hemispheres... so someone has an imported toilet...:crazy::(

Mine flushes counter which means the Simpsons lied to me. d**n that TV.

haha, the american toilet that flushed counterclockwise, that was great.

Counter for me as well, although I admit I had to give a test flush since I never really payed attention to the direction of the flushing.

Counter here. All three toities in the house.

And as it has been said, and Snopes confirms, it doesn't matter where you are on the planet.

I was on a ship before we had this nifty thing called the internet (so...No Snopes)...So we conducted our own experiment over the course of a week, as we neared, and crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, the Equator, and the Tropic of Cancer.....Toilets never changed direction, all the way to Cape Horn.

There you have it....First hand account of hemispherical commodal rotation in relation to geographic location....Or lack thereof.
