2021 Silverado 1500 6.2L downshift chirp/squeak

I just bought a new 2021 1500 with the 6.2L.  When driving around town approaching stops, when the truck downshifts into 1st gear approaching the stop the truck will make this chirping/squaking noise upon stopping the vehicle.  I can also hear it randomly occur starting and slowing down with in town driving as well.  Appears to come from the front mid section of the vehicle, maybe exhaust or transmission.  Has anyone heard of this problem?  Truck only has 600 miles on it.

Yep,seems to be a thing on all of these new trucks with the DFM.....put it in "L" mode on the shifter and bump the shifter "+" up to like L7 and drive around to see if that sound stops, mine did. Got this idea from another member here on the gm forum. When you have it in L shift mode it shuts off the DFM and that sound seems to stop. I had mine into the dealership for the chirp sound and they refused to acknowledge it.....they know it's this bullshi* DFM causing it.

I wonder if what you are hearing is the stupid flappers in the exhaust pre and post muffler.  I had those and the muffler cut out when I went with a different muffler so I don't get that, but have seen some people post that is what the noise was on theirs.

Just curious if anyone has ever got this noise diagnosed/fixed?  My 21' seems to have the same noise, it also does it at autostart from a light, and cold start, and when downshifting at low speeds, seems like it's getting worse/louder as time goes on.

Yep that sounds like it, mine has a little more "flutter" to it, but same thing, goes away after 20-30 seconds, but you can also hear it for a few seconds after a restart at a stop light, and if you are driving say in an alley or along a building you can hear it doing it when the truck downshifts at low speeds.   

 

I believe it has to be DFM related, if I run the truck in L-9 it goes away when shifting (it won't auto start/stop in L-9 so no testing that or cold startup).   It's also probably why GM can't/won't do anything about it and simply considers it "Normal Operation"

Did this ever get worked out?  Just bought a brand new GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with the 6.2 .  Heard this right after I brought it home and started it in my garage.  Now, it's all I can hear!  

Took it to the dealer a couple days ago, they said they couldn't replicate it or hear it.  Does this mean we'll have imminent lifter issues?

I have a 2022 trail boss with 3500K on it and it dose the same thing, had it to the dealer 4 times now and have put multiple complaints in to GM and basically told me to get bent as this is a normal noise, and its like that to make the truck sound more like a V8...HAHAHA.. they even put a new exhaust on it and it still did the same thing. this has to be the most annoying noise ever, and wish GM would step up and fix the problem...  if any one has any updates on how to fix that would be great.

In response to your concern with the noise on yo0ur vehicle that they told you that was normal. Reason is each pulse makes a tone, which combined with the other pulses forms a harmonic series. The same thing happens in all engines, but it's the irregular firing sequence that gives a big V8 its distinctive throbbing sound.

 

With regards to the heated/ventilated chips, there is no ETA yet available. Our teams have been working hard to find a solution to retrofit vehicles with these convenience features that our customers want to continue to enjoy. We are excited to confirm all vehicles covered by the previous announcement will be eligible for a retrofit process that will activate the operation of the heated and ventilated seat modules. This retrofit process will begin when parts become available and at no cost to you.  Once parts are available to begin the retrofit process, dealers and customers will be notified accordingly.  

The retrofit process began in late Q2 2022, and we understand that due to the scale of the number of vehicles impacted, this process may take some time to complete for all of the vehicles that require retrofit.  

Your dealership will contact you as soon as the parts are received, and will make arrangements to get your vehicle in for service.

That's completely ridiculous, but not surprising, GM is clearly assuming you are a total idiot with such a response.   While I'm sure many parts are different, It would be interesting to see if this happens with the 6.2 Camero/Corvette.   The reality is unfortunately these noises seem "normal" for this Truck/Engine, however it's NOT normal for a new vehicle, and it doesn't change the fact that it sounds like it belongs in a junkyard when it cold starts, restarts at stop lights, and downshifts.

What if we got a class action together?  I have also played with switching into L9, and it doesn't make the sound when downshifting or pressing the accelerator at lower speeds.  It makes the sound when it starts though, even if you immediately shift into L9.  It's definitely DFM related and pathetic that our $70k brand new trucks sound like 1972 Chryslers when they start.

They know there's an issue, and are refusing to address it with consumers.  I've reached out to a law group who has previously won class action suits.

      I usually do as well or better than the sticker for mileage. Usually better going west than east. North then South. Wind makes a difference. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist. But it did dawn on me I’m going by the vehicle calculation. Now that would be interesting.

      What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire. Buy a tumbler make your own coffee, pack your lunch. Cook your own dinner. Most importantly take care of your car.

      People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.

      Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.
