Thinking about doing the L86 intake swap on my 2018 L83. My question: is the tune an absolute MUST? what are the consequences of no tune? CEL?

Posted (edited)

the problem we have is our l83 TB's only open 83%, so the point of the swap is to install either the 6.2 TB or a ZR1 95MM TB. this will compensate for the lack of 100% opening of the STOCK TB . yes you need to install the 6.2 manifold to use the big TB's

Are you getting that 83% from what you see on your scanner or from it actually opening?

HP Tuners for example has the TPS channel stop at 83-84% but you can log other channels to see the opening amount.

i will have to mount my camera towards the TB and shoot a video to confirm its actually not opening 100%, this is what all three of my scanners show 83% on the tps, one is cheapo TOrque app, then and autozone scanner, the HPtuners software. the tech at tuning school says this is correct for our trucks.

Yeah, that specific channel in just about all scanners will stop at 83-84%. Been that way since 2007.5 in the GEN 4 trucks and whenever they started using the E67 computer in cars.
