You might try putting the rear end up on jackstands, with the front wheels chocked and in 2wd, start up the engine, put it in drive, and use a mechanics stethoscope to find where the sound is coming from.

I thought i had bearings going bad in the rear at 190k but found it was drive shaft u-joints instead
