Shaky mirror

My driver side mirror has always vibrated a lot when driving over 40mph. The passenger side is steady and stable, its a b**** trying to see things clearly in the driver side mirror when its shaking all over heck. Anybody know a possible solution? I dont have power mirrors.

do you happen to have a bug shield on your hood? Mine started getting shaky at 60+ mph as soon as I installed my bug shield.

Can you move it any by hand? If so, you can pop that triangle interior panel off and see if the nuts on the inside need tightened.

Don't feel bad, Ford has the same problem on the F-150 also.

Yes, I do have a bigshield and never thought much about that. The outside housing seems to be solid, just the mirror shakes (although I will have to double check that now). The passenger side might be shaking just as much but being a convex mirror it would be less noticeable.

Like Jon said, a bugshield will cause a lot of vibration. I have one too, and both vibrate a little, but not realy bad.

I have the power mirrors (no bugshield) and the drivers side vibrates when it is not at its furthest limit of travel (ie, it does not vibrate when adjusted for me but does when my wife adjust it for her). Just before I got the hoe I rented a brand new 00 Deville when my 98 Z28 was in the shop, BOTH of the Deville's external mirrors vibrated no matter where they were set. I cannot understand why GM has such a problem with the mirrors (well, both were fine on the Z28).

My driver's side mirror has been doing since the day I bought it. It is annoying but not annoying enough that I remember to mention it when I bring it in for service.

A 94 can actaully be adjusted to take a little of that out. It has the big chrome (or black) mirrors right? Take the cover off of the outside base and there are nuts inside that can be tightened. Make sure you get them just right. Too loose and it will shake, too tight and it will be hard to adjust. Similarly there are adjustments behind the glass inside the mirror for the other swivel point.

The 95-98 style mirrors are a little more stable than the 88-94 also. Don't buy the cheap aftermarket ones though they are horrible.

Yea I think it needs to be just a bit tighter. I have to go in and tighten them every year or so. It gets to the point where at 70 mph they start to fold in.
