I swapped out the rear end on my 2009 LS Avalanche with a 2013 Z71 Avalanche.  Now the ABS and Traction control lights are on.  Are these rear ends compatible?  What is happening?

'09 - '13 SHOULD be the same ... BUT, I believe 2010 was the 1st year of "Global-A" architecture. Just a fancy way of saying GM wants to completely screw DIY'ers. On Global-A vehicles, module swaps willl screw the whole vehicle up due to module incompatibility. Not that you swapped a module ... but I would wager that the inputs for ABS / traction control are also different. Just a theory - I honestly don't know. I have a hard enough time troubleshooting these over-engineered crapboxes without trying to memorize 10,000 different incompatibilities.

I would grab a scan tool and watch the rear ABS speed signal. See if it's not reading at all, reading slower than normal, or bouncing all over the place. May be a simple as a shorted wire or a failed sensor. I believe that sensor is in the transfer case, unless 2WD - not sure where they are on those. I haven't seen a 2WD truck since the 90's.

Oh, one important question I neglected to ask ... is the gearing EXACTLY THE SAME as what the truck came with? If not, this will trigger a "Christmas tree" of warning lights in the cluster.

And according to the link I posted but failed to completely read, you're clear of that in a '13.
