Starting this morning I can't get my 2006 Silverado 4x4 transfer case to go in to Neutral. Normally this would not be a problem, but we tow this truck behind our RV.
I looked for a fuse, but did not find something obvious. It will go in to 2 WD, 4WD high, 4WD low, but not Neutral. I've always pressed the 2WD and 4WD High together to shift in to Neutral, but this does not work anymore.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bill

Probably wont fix it, but for the price - its worth a shot. Super easy to install.

if you have some tools, just disconnect the front drive shaft till you get where you are going.   I am not going to insult your intelligence and ask if you are following the proper procedure for neutral.

Remove the front drive shaft? How does this help?

Also, if you have to tow a vehicle, but cant get the T-case into neutral, you can start the engine and leave the transmission in neutral. This will allow the transmission cooling system to remain functional, thus avoiding damage to the trans.

removing the front shaft wont help. you may want to scan it for transfer case / trans codes before throwing parts at it. not sure if parts store code readers have the capability to do that so you may have to take it to a garage

are you sure its actually shifting in and out of 4wd?if it is its more than likely the switch but you could try disconnecting the battery and touching the disconnected cables together and see if the system resets

Bill, my memory is not as good as it once was.  I think I remember how to switch mine into neutral and then have to open the glove box and follow the manual because I forgot a step.  I try to do it at least every couple of months to keep it exercised, that is, if I remember!
