Low Beam blocked by Westin HDX Grille Guard

Just posting this for information that it might help others. 
 

I have a 2019 Sierra 1500 Denali (new body style) that I had the Westin HDX Grille Guard installed on it. See it here.

 

Immediately after installation I noticed that the low beam headlight output was severely diminished. I actually pulled over and inspected the lights thinking something was wrong with them. Turns out there is a horizontal support on each side that runs directly in front of the lower low beam headlight and blocks it and it’s output.

 

I reached out to Westin and asked if they were aware of this issue and the potential safety issue that it creates. After a few emails back and forth and photos of the front-end showing the light blockage, I received a phone from their customer service group.  I was told their engineering and/or designers were not aware there were two low beam lights on each side in addition to the high beam light. And with that not being know they created a design which blocked the output as described above. Oddly enough the photos of the grille guard on their site show the lower low beam being blocked by the horizontal support.

 

Having said all that, in short I was advised this specific model of the HDX grilled guard will be redesigned and possibly ready for release in about 6 months. So if you’re looking to purchase one of these you might want to hold off until around July 2022 and inquire on the updated design.

so what was the outcome? are they going to exchange it for the new design or reimburse you? thats a lawsuit waiting to happen if you hit something you don't see

They’ve agreed to swap my grilled guard with the redesigned one when it gets manufactured.

How is that a lawsuit waiting to happen? He puts it on noticed it blocks the low beam he continues to drive and hits something and it's the company's fault, really? Say someone puts headlight tint on their headlights its cuts down the light output and they hit something so you're saying to sue the tint company?  Thats some funny stuff right there, sue sue sue that all people want to do nowadays.

You are ignorant my man.  Put your anti-lawsuit emotions aside and read up on the legal definition and recourse for "manufacturer product liability".  Thousands of manufacturers have faced litigation over defective products that result in personal harm/death.  Yes, the consumer should use discretion here, but it does not exclude the manufacturer from "liability".

 

I'm just as against frivolous lawsuits as you are, but if our guy gets in a wreck because he couldn't see a deer in the road at night because this product blocked the headlight, that is good grounds for a lawsuit.  Hell, he even has the manufacturer admitting they "didn't realize there were two low beams".

they should immediatly issue a recall to protect themselves now that they are aware, if they ignore the fact that its a safety issue they open themselves  to criminal negligence charges as well as lawsuits. Im not familiar with the company but if its a small operation a recall could break the bank
