Hey all, been looking at 2500hd/3500hd, but not sure if I want to go Diesel with Few Accessories or Gas with Several Accessories, never owned Diesel.

Currently have a 2014 1500sle with several accessories except leather. Pulling a 34' Rockwood 8329SS travel trailer weighing 7200lbs Dry and 8850 GVWR.  Really like this trailer but who knows the future.

Appreciate your thoughts,

I traded in my 2014 1500 5.3 LTZ that was really decked out.   I bought a 2020 2500HD LTZ 6.6 Duramax with all the bells and whistles.   It only had 12k miles on it.   I have a trailer about the size of yours and it pulls it like there is nothing hitched to the truck.   I get about 20mpg when using as my daily driver and about 14mpg when pulling the trailer.  I feel that it's been a great investment and I totally enjoy driving it every time I climb into it.   Wishing you luck on your upgrade!

I went from a gas 2014 Ram 2500 (5.7L) to a 2021 6.6L gasser. I pull a Keystone Springdale 3030BH with similiar-ish  weight as yours. I am more than pleased with the towing capability of this gas motor. I would estimate we camp 10 weekends a year and none of them are flat tows, mostly within 30-50 miles from home.

The first time I towed with my truck last year was 120 miles one way with some good mountain roads, twists, and then more mountain. I was smiling the whole way, I never felt that I needed more power. I was considering diesel as well mostly due to availability at the time but I am more than satisfied with the gas motor and the extra money in my pocket.

Thank You Bill, I do feel the 6.6l gas has all the power I need for this TT.L

All about preference, 6.6L gas definitely fits your power needs.  Fuel mileage is not as good in the gas engine but the cost is roughly 50 cents a gallon less also.  For me gas was a no brainer, I wanted to keep the price down a little and I never was one to care at all about the bells and whistles on the inside.

I generally buy base and add my personal preferences myself.  Because of this I was able to pay cash for the truck and have no payments.

Thank You Erick, diesel would be better mpg over gas, but the .40 cents at pump more and Def fluid make the savings about equal.

I sure will miss my 14 1500 gas mpg.

I diffently want to keep price down, but like bucket seats, tilt wheel, cruise, stering wheel controls, back up camera, trailer tow set up, but all else with or without to buy.

My 14 is paid for, so it is a good down payment.  Later-

I have a 2020 2500HD Crew Cab X31 6.6L gas loaded. Just towed my horse trailer and pickup loaded, around 7500 + lbs. a 1000 miles thru the mountains and flat lands. I averaged 10+ mpg and no problems with power or handling at all going up the mountains and keeping up with traffic or faster. Didn’t feel the trailer at all. Good luck with your decision!!!
