Speaker Question?

I have a question for all of you experts out there. I bought some speakers for my 2001 Z71 Ext Cab. The speakers are 4x6's and they go in the rear doors. Is it easy to take the door panel off to install the speakers?? If so, how do I go about doing it? Thanks in advance!

No it is not easy in fact most of the time they break coming off. It is easier some times to just go to an installer with the speakers and have them install it. However, some will not even touch it. The last time I did it that the whole back seat and any hardware had to come out and then you start at the driver and passenger upper door frames and work your way back very carefully and slowly!!!

Good luck it is not easy!!

What?

It's incredibly easy...Especially if you have 4 doors (like all the 01's do).

It only took me a few minutes to do it, but I couldn't give you an accurate description now because I havn't had the door panels off in 6 months.

Do a forum search, and you will find all the info you need.

Thanks for the help Wingnut. It was unbelievably easy. I got both speakers installed in about 45 minutes. Definitely not the task I thought it was going to be. Thanks for the help and the reference post. Have a good one.

Yes, I am doing the fronts too. When I went to buy the ones that I want they didn't have them in stock so I am waiting on them to get in.

The new one sound pretty good. They are just 4x6's so they are not all that loud to begin with, but the Pioneers I put in definitely make a little more bass then the factory speakers. Not to bad.

Next will be Rockford Fosgates 6 1/2's in the front when they get them in. I work at Best Buy about 10 hours a week just for the discounts, while being a teacher during the day. The discounts are unbelievable on Car Audio. I got a 499.99 Pioneer Head Unit for 320.00. These speakers were 89.00 I think and I got them for around 40.00. The RF for the front are 199.99, and I get them for about 80.00. After those it will be an amp and 2 10's. Just don't know what brand yet. Everyone there says Rockford Fosgate. Do you have any opinions?

Have a great day.

I have a Fosgate 700 pushing 2 Kicker 10" under the rear seat, and a Fosgate 500 pushing the mids and tweets.

I have MB Quart components in the front, and Infiniti plates in the rear doors.

In my 92 I have two 10" Fosgate subs and a Fosgate 200 driving them Got some Boston Acoustic and Kicker mids and tweets in there too.

So, yeah...I like Fosgate  I have never tried their mids and tweets though. I was looking at the Fosgate components for the front doors, but fell into a deal on these MB Quart....Lemme tell you...These are just about the best speakers out there IMO. Pretty pricey though.

Heh, Fedykk, must not have a truck like mine (and your's)! As wingnut said, and you found out, the rears are no prob at all. The front are a bit more involved simply b/c of all the extra wires attached to the panel (locks, windows, seat heaters if ya have em, and that little light at the bottom). It still isn't hard by any means though. If ya get stuck or would just like instructions ahead of time, I've still got the ones that Crutchfield shipped w/ my stuff and would be glad to scan em for ya.

As for the subs, I decided to go with 2 JL Audio 10w6's b/c of their reputation for sound quality. Needless to say, I have NOT been disappointed! Of course, if your plannin on buying from Best Buy (and you'd be crazy not to, imho) you'll have to pick something else ... well, at least my local Best Buy doesn't carry JL products??? I also built a down-firing, sealed enclosure and am happy with it. I'll have to get some pics so I can post em. I'm no carpenter though so I was glad the carpet covered up some of the misaligned edges.

Anyway, good luck with your install and keep us posted on what all ya put in!

let me ask a radio question.I have 2 kicker 10's and they replaced the factory speakers in the back with bostwicks, now in the front they told me that the pioneer componet set was the best buy so i let them install them.i know i need more amp, i have 1 sony amp on everything.but it does not sound like i think it should if you turn it loud it just blares out ,the subs are fine i dont care about alot of base.so do i just need another amp or are these front speakers no good?

the door panels are very easy to take off. the front panel slides up after removing a screw behind the lock plate and a screw by the door handle. the back door panels pull out, start on one side and go all the way around popping out the panel. after that you are set to go.

when i replaced the back door speakers on my extended cab i found that my 5 1/4 speakers wouldnt fit right, so i used a plasma torch to cut out a bigger space to fit the speakers in. i then made brackets out of 1/4in pressboard and used them to mount the speakers to the doors. good luck
