3.0 oil pressure

What should the oil pressure be at idle on these? First diesel so I’m a noob. Seems low but I’m guessing that is normal for a diesel?? Any input is appreciated.

3.0 runs lower oil pressure than you're likely used to seeing. 

Below 30 at idle/low speed. 

(2.7's are similar)

 

Kinda annoying when the gauge is same as for the other engines and the midpoint is 60. 

 

I wouldn't say it's normal for all diesels, but it is for this 3.0. 

6.6 will probably be higher.

Some big cummins motors idle much lower. 

 

 

ECM is constantly watching the oil pressure.

The cummins in my work truck idle at 20-25psi hot and that's a 6.7 engine.

There is a supplement to the owners manual for your 3.0 Duramax in the glove box. Oil pressure is covered in there.

Thanks. That’s about where it was. Had to drop the truck off at the dealer. Think the ECM is haywire.

Have a thread in the troubleshooting forum. DIC messages, check engine light, crank no start. Total mess.
