So my lifters on cylinder 7 are going bad and I am looking into doing a Afm delete kit. I have had my Afm turned off with my Diablo tuner since 8k miles and I am at 55k miles now.  I am ticked the lifters are going already. I have looked at Texas speed, Brain Tooley Racing and Scoggin Dickey.  I just want the Afm deleted and no performance cam upgrade.  Just want it reliable. I’m confused what lifters to use. Each kit has multiple options.  I would go with a stock non Afm cam.  I also don’t understand why Scoggin Dickey recommends replacing the high pressure fuel lines. Also can I use my diablointune to tune the Afm off with the kit installed or does ecu need to be sent out?   Would I still have variable valve timing after the afm delete kit?

Standard lifters are all you need, people call them the LS7 style lifter or whatever. You don't need the super expensive lifters, just regular OEM lifters.

Texas speed has it in their listing that it can come with a non AFM 5.3 cam with VVT, so that stays the same. I just don't see new lifter trays listed, so you'd need to add that as well because you are removing the DoD Lifters.

I had a total price of $600 before the lifter trays and any other gaskets you need. The two fuel lines are technically one time use, that is why they want you to replace them.

You must actually tune the computer if remove all the physical parts. If your handheld tuner just came with pre-loaded tunes that won't be good enough. We have to go into the calibration and turn off the master enable/disable table as well as all the AFM/DoD related trouble codes so it can run without the parts.

Also if you pull the fuel injectors out of the cylinder head, you must replace the injector seals on the direct injectors. It requires a tool for installing the new seals as well.

LS7 lifters are all Delphi now. GM actually released a new part number for performance lifters, I do not remember what it is and I have yet to see any reveiews

Thanks all....  I talked to Texas speed and he recommended the Delphi LS7 lifters for just a stock engine.  They also said the High Pressure fuel lines don't need to be replaced but I will ask the shop that is going to do the work.  Texas speed also said he has heard of people being able to just use the Diablo Intune for the ECU turning off AFM but wasn't sure.  I called Diablo they said it will turn off all the AFM parameters for the new cam and lifters so hopefully it works.  The nearest place to tune it is 1 1/2 hrs away if I need to go there.  Between the Texas Speed cam spec and BTR cam specs they are slightly different so I am nervous which would be closest to make it run like stock.  Does anyone know members on here that have done a Dod delete from Texas Speed or Brian Tooley?

BTR cam

Specs: 200/206 .549"/.522" 116.5+4.5

Texas Speed cam

- TSP OEM-Style Non-DOD L86 Camshaft w/ VVT: 200/208 .541"/.529" 116.5+2.5 (25-tspL86stockcam)

There is basically zero difference between those two camshafts, it would run exactly the same.

So I tried changing plugs and wires before I jumped into full dod delete and drove around floored it up to redline through gears and no misfire or check engine light.  Could my misfire code really just have been bad plug or wire.  Whole time changing them I really wasn’t too confident. Cyl 7 plug was a little black and greasy oily looking.

O well 4 days after new plugs and wires misfire cyl 7 is back but odly it didn’t bog down and the check engine light went off after a minute of flashing.

Ended up just having lifters and vlom replaced.  The extra labor for the cam swap to do a full delete wasnt worth it since I want to sell the truck within the next year.

This is where I'm at as well.  Just trying to get the lifter replaced for a decent cost, then I'll trade it on a 250/2500 and never have to worry about these stupid lifters again.

why did you have the VLOM replaced if you just did the lifter? is that recommended?

Yes it’s part of the procedure GM says needs to be done when lifter fails and is being replaced because it throws the solenoid timing out of spec

Hmm that’s strange.   One of my lifters just failed.  I’m going with a delete kit and having the oil pump replaced while they are there.

    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
