First the specs.

Factory 20’s from 2022 custom, with the very street 275 60r20 tires, weighed at 78 1/4 lbs and measures on the truck 32 1/4” tall.

New set up, 17’s with 255 80r17 load range E snowflake all terrains. 74 1/4 lbs and same 32 1/4” measured height.

New wheel Black Rhino Chase, 0 offset, 17x8.5, 25 lb, and tire spec falken at3w supposed to be 52.5 lb.

New set up has outside edge of tire 0.7” further out with 1.5” more clearance to the UCA side. I have 8” of sidewall now vs 6.5.

Ride feels same. Acceleration and stopping also. I was hoping for same weight making this change but losing 4 lbs a corner was an unexpected bonus while going to a more outdoorsman oriented set up. You can go 2 lbs lighter per corner with the Black Rhino Rapid Fyi and if I could have found some in the dark blue I would have.

Might have enough clearance for a set of v-bar tire chains in there?

Some airbags and lighting going in and likely spray box liner the inside rear fender wells to deal with that awful white in there. Be ready for a little blood in the box come fall. If only I could have had this with a manual transmission and a nice heavy flywheel...drool. 😉

I don't see that tire size very often, kind of unique and I work with tires basically all day lol.

it's abnormal, just like me, kidding aside...isn't this a pretty common dually size? lots of load range E in this size from recollection, at least from the 17" era which is a pretty long era

also, the spare tire for the trucks that come with the 20" wheels is also 255 80r17 so it's a match all the way around now, and I agree, most people are trying to go fatter the past few decades 😉

Ford uses a 245/75/17 and Chevy/Dodge uses a 235/80/17 for the dually trucks. These are late model trucks, a lot of the early trucks all use 16in rims with like a 215/85 or 225/80 sized tires.

Possible the 255/80's work without the tires touching each other on the rear duals but I don't see them much.

It’s essentially a metric 33 x 10.5. Maybe it’s the Tacoma crowd that really likes this size but it’s definitely not too hard to find.

i like this set up, these trucks are getting lighter and yet you get wide tires. your set up give more weight per square inch of tire that meets the road

Agree, when getting snow tires often guided to this formula to get more psi to the ground for traction.

Here’s a good picture of what I did here.

Do you notice any difference in the ride?

I'm toying with the idea of getting a set of 17's or 18's with LT snow tires for the winter.  Keep running the OEM P metric 20's in the summer.

No difference to me. I’m a couple thousand kms on them and so pleased with the set up.
