I'm contemplating buying a travel trailer next spring. Around a 24-26 ft. and trying to keep the trailer GVWR under 8500lbs.. This would be pretty close to the limits of my 5.3, X31, SLT.  I know the 6.2 will give me the punch i need, but the will the NHT package give me the extra towing capacity needed. I looked at the 2500's but just don't want a truck that size. . A factory order would probably be the only way to go. I want an SLT equipped like my 2020. Only adding the 6.2 and dumping the X31 for the NHT.. Is the NHT worth the extra money to give me the extra capacity.?

For 2022 refreshed, NHT with 6.2 changes max trailer rating from 8,900 to 13,000

- Requires 4WD model, (NHT) Max Trailering Package and 20" wheels and tires. With 17" or 18" wheels max trailering is 11,700 lbs.

Payload only goes up 160 lbs.

For 2023 1500, those  ratings aren't yet published in the order guide (waiting for release of LZO 3.0 specs??)

I'm ordering a similar truck this week, but with the Duramax.

What are your thoughts on the 20"vs18" wheels to get that extra bit of towing cap? Worth the money for the bit of sway reduction?

I'd have bought mine with 18's if they were available on Denali for 2021.

I prefer the extra sidewall for ride.

Tire diameters are similar.

I do have a set of 18" take-offs that I have 3PMSF winter tires installed on.

I don't tow travel trailer, but haven't had sway issue when towing with either tire set-up.

6.2 with NHT pulls really nice.  But I don’t have much to compare it to.  Used to pull our 30’ travel trailer with a 5.3 NHT Suburban, so just having a truck with more power and built to pull a trailer better than a Suburban already makes it a better setup.  I have the 20” wheels and run load E tires.  I was in same situation as you, I considered the 2500 but I’m in enough parking garages for work and didn’t want to mess with a bigger truck, because it was something I “wanted” not needed.  My 6.2 will pass anything towing…except a gas station.  8.5 mpg running 70-75.  Great truck though.

I have a 6.2 NHT and have pulled up to 7500lbs it does great, but you will probably want to run a sway WDH hitch and/or airbags the rear springs allow allot of squat. I used to run the WDH with my enclosed trailer now I just run bags with a 24' equipment trailer. I have done the same trip from STL to Utah with my truck and my buddy's gas 2021 silverado 2500, both towing essentially the same trailer loaded with a similar amount of weight. They both tow great I feel mine with the 6.2 does better up the mountains and feel like the power is better managed by the 10 speed, his 2500 does better downhill and has a much better "engine breaking assist" than mine.
