Hello All!

Hopefully I'm posting in the correct forum! I'm looking to purchase a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 with 74k miles on the clock, 6.2 v8, max trailering package. It's currently listed at 36k though I'm trying to work a deal to get it a little bit lower. I'm wondering if there's anything I should look out for with this truck, or anything I should be concerned about as it nears 100k miles. I'm looking to purchase this as a daily driver (we don't drive much) and a tow vehicle for a travel trailer (gross weight is about 7500lbs). I went through the manual and it looks like this truck can tow about 11k lbs, thought the dealer is telling me it can tow 9k. Not sure where their numbers are coming from.

Any gotchas, noises, etc. I should be looking for if I make the drive to check this truck out? Thanks in advance! Looking forward to lurking around here in the future.

Welcome to the site.

Can they provide service records, just to see where you are at on some of the major fluid changes, and OCI's.

Also, can your provide a link to the truck? They may just be quoting tow ratings for the non NHT trailer package.

Thanks for the reply!

Here's the exact truck https://www.freewaytoyota.com/inventory/used-2017-gmc-sierra-1500-slt-4wd-4d-crew-cab-3gtu2nej6hg423649/

And here are the service records: https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/ar20/L9X0it9RwjRjY948tV8p_375mJrsH7NixXy9SbV9qNyrUUn66hv6KCKa8rpOnjhlddxyDjmW-8j3VF4OPxG_OeU-QtSvHjGeQyM

Looks like the camshaft was replaced and the vacuum pump. Then more recently the dealership it's at now did some maintenance to get it ready.

I think they were quoting me the tow rating for the 3.23 rear axle, but the truck actually has the 3.42 ratio so you're likely right!

There's an issue with 8 speed transmissions of some shutter, which GM corrected with a recall if you complained where they flushed the transmissiin fluid h put a newer fluid it. See if this was done by PO. Google it for info

You are very welcome.

It is a well traveled truck, sold new in Canada, shipped to Ohio, and now in California.

My biggest concern would be, why was the camshaft replaced, along with plugs, and wires? Was there a lifter failure, bent pushrod, or what type of failure took out the camshaft? And why were those parts not listed as being replaced?

Hmm that's a good question – I guess I'd have to make the drive up there to test drive it and hear it run. Of course the dealer claims it runs smooth. I'm a little worried about rust since it started life in Canada, though again that's something I'll have to go investigate on the lot.

Are these trucks generally reliable after 100k? I'm guessing at about 1.5 years of ownership I'd hit 100k.

Awesome I'll look into this, thank you.

With all the issues it's had, RUN!

any K2 truck with the 6.2 and a fast shifting 8 speed , is desirebly from a collectors view. but for daily driver it might be a waste of money.

they are exspensive to repair, i'm sceptical if its on a toyota lot. was used for a trade in, so origional owner was getting sick of it and bought a reliable toyota product..lol
