I replaced the steering gear and shaft in my '03 S10 2WD a few days ago. Dead simple job, truck handles like new now, no more wandering down the freeway. I installed one of those Hooker/Blackheart shafts instead of going back with a rag-joint shaft. I had to beat the hell out of the old pitman arm to get it off the gear so I replaced that too. Couple of hundred bucks, couple of hours, well worth the time and money.

Good News, you need to post some pictures. I have thought of that on mine also. I tightenedd the nut on top of the box a couple of years ago and it has become loose and sloppy again, maybe that would be a good winter project.
