Cold air intake

I have a 2019 GMC sierra SLT 5.3.

After installing a k/n 63 series cold air intake and a j&l 3.0 catch can, the truck is running lean. I capped the fitting on the tube and put a breather on the passenger pcv . In other words, I deleted the hose from the passenger side valve cover going to the intake tube.

Check engine light came on, so I used a code reader and it shows the truck is running lean.

Do anyone have an idea what is causing this code?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

The dealer claims that you need to reflash your MAF (mass air flow sensor) to use a CAI. I bought the GM CAI that came with the flash (so they said) and have no issues but many folks with newer vehicles have tossed codes after a CAI install. It is not even close to being as nice as the competitors CIA's but it was part of the deal at the time. Your truck may "learn" as you drive it but they claim no power increase without a flash. I highly doubt that the K&N system is causing a lean condition, your A/F mixture may be on the edge and just upsetting the computer. Why did you cap your passenger side vent? I too am using the JLT that was a plug and play for the 6.2L and did not cap any breathers.

I put a breather on the passenger side and capped the fitting on the tube. I did this because I didn't want the intake tube to suck any fumes. I have done the same process on other vehicles with no issues. I did it on my 2021 camaro ss and no check engine light came on.

I’ve got the Corsa CAI which is a Volant, the Corsa catch can, and Corsa exhaust and have had no check engine lights come on. Just unhooked the battery during install and the truck relearned the new CAI. My truck is a 2021 with the 6.2.

Got it!

Well after installing the CAI and catch can, no lights came on until 2 days of running my truck. I disconnected the negative on battery and it took about 40 miles before the light came back on.

I have read that in some cases the vehicle needs to run from 70 to 100 miles so that the computer can relearn. I have not driven the truck 70 at one time.

Maybe that's what I need to do
