2004 silverado 1500. 5.3 4x4 auto trans

I think my truck is on drugs. Just bought the truck a few months ago. Started with the battery draining after not starting for 2 days. Now, blower only works on number 5...crazy grinding sounds when switching between defrost, floor...etc. a couple of days ago it started randomly switching into neutral while driving or going into 4 wheel auto. Now the info display switches to Spanish randomly. Should I start looking for an exorcist?

Sounds like everything decided to fail at once.

 

Blower motor speed issue is probably a bad resistor pack.

 

Grinding is probably bad servo motors for the doors, something like a mouse nest jammed in there, preventing full range of motion, or someone replaced them already with Dorman units.

 

Transfer case issue could be a problem with the switch, or an internal problem - that one needs close investigation. I would concentrate on fixing this one before anything else.

 

The display issue is common - just do a search on the net of the various ways to fix that. If none of them work, there's plenty of electronics companies out there that have fixed thousands of these. Common issue in this generation.

I have a 2004 ext cab silverado z71 4x4 auto.

 

The dead battery and different language and changing of 4x4 status is all instrument panel related.  Circuit Board Medics is your best bet just google them.  Thats how i fixed mine.  Almost everything in the cab has its power/info go through that instrument panel cluster.  It can even cause your abs motor to run when the truck has no key in it.

 

Hvac control modules and actuators are known to go bad on these as well mine is currently stuck on defrost however its not as important right now as other things im working on.  Amazon has all these parts for pretty cheap possibly hit miss on getting good ones.
