Any one have this issue with def range low popping up in cluster with mileage range calc but your def indicator lights show that it’s full?

Also says on App too that it’s range is low?

On my '23, myGMC seems to always report the DEF level information as 'unavailable'.

I have noticed that in truck DEF level gauges sometimes are slow to change after a refill. (not just on this '23)

New '23 GMC AT4 with 3.0 Diesel...  I have the same issue with a full Def tank, but an alert "DEF Range Low" in the App.  At 1219 total miles on the truck, I had to fill the def tank (DIC said 198 miles remaining).  I have driven another 500 miles (total 1721 miles) and am down 1/3 DEF tank already.  My dealer says this is normal, but I think this is quite excessive.

What level does the info page in the truck say?

The current def level is about 2/3 full.  But there is an alert on the GMC app "DEF Range Low".  There is no alert on the Drivers Information Center (DIC) about DEF however, I read that the DIC only displays low range alerts at 1000 & 300 miles to empty.  So, I am interpreting with 2/3 full DEF tank, I am within 1000 and 300 miles on DEF range.

I'd be ignoring the phone app and going by what the truck is indicating.

Mine phone app always indicates def info unavailable -- but I've notice the other info is not always fully up to date.

What are you doing with the truck?

What type of fuel mpg are you getting when you check it at fill ups?

DEF usage should be about 2% of fuel usage.

Because def usage is so low compared to fuel usage, a small difference in measuring def added (was it filled the same both times) can make a big difference in calculated DEF mileage.

For this reason I run the def tank down to empty or vary close and use a bulk pump to ensure I can get the tank completely filled without having to deal with a jug with some leftover in it.

I also don't believe the DEF page is accurate enough to use for calculating the DEF mileage.

Each segment does not indicate the same amount of fluid.

When viewing the page, is the segment above the current one 'just turned off' or is the current segment just about to turn off?

Fill, record odometer, drive for 1000's of miles, refill and accurately measure def added -- hand calculate mileage.

For comparison, my LZO fuel consumption is running about 28 usmpg with my usage. (so not high speed, not towing and little elevation change)

Truck has about 5500 miles and I have not added def since taking delivery.

Idash and truck 'def level info page' agree that the truck has about 1/3 tank of DEF left.

I'm expecting it have similar overall consumption as my LM2 --  approx 1200 miles per def gallon.

DEF page detail taken from 2023 3.0 manual (the 6.6 has a larger tank)

image.thumb.png.bd393c1a5cbd16deade1ac4525e4462b.png

The 2023 LZO tank holds 5.4 gallons, so when like the last line (when it will take 4 gallons) it still has 1.4 gallons in tank.

Daily driving that will be +/-1500 miles til empty on mine.  (And then the 500 miles to speed restriction begin)

I'll need fuel twice to drive 1500 miles -- and where there is fuel there is def

(ya, maybe extremely isolate areas there may be fuel and no def, but if I'm going there then part of my preparation is filling the def tank)

Lack of accuracy example:

Drove 2000 miles since DEF tank was completely filled.

Decide to check the DEF page. (intentionally not calling it a gauge)

DEF page is showing top 4 segments off.

But -- perhaps the 4th segment just went off, or maybe the 5th segment is about to go off -- so somewhere around 1.5 to 2 to 2.5 gallons can be added.

2000 miles / 2.5 gal --- 800 miles per gallon

2000 miles / 2 gal --- 1000 miles per gallon

2000 miles / 1.5 gal ---- 1333 miles per gallon

So, using just the def page, we really have no idea about the def usage.  (which is why I don't call it a gauge...)

1333 is way way more than 800....

Otoh, I'm not sure all this really matters.

If not trying do detailed tracking of DEF mileage just wait for the 1000 mile warning and dump in a 2.5 gallon jug.

I'm doing it for '****** and giggles'.

I'm having this same exact issue with my 2023 AT4 (3.0L).  I have around 500miles on the truck and my DEF indicator in the truck is only down one line from full.  However, my MyGMC app has been showing DEF Range Low since a week after I got the vehicle.  Everything else in the app seems to be working fine...sometimes my PSI might be off by 1 or 2, but no biggie. GM tells me the DEF Range Low issue is an OnStar issue since only my app is giving me false info.  OnStar has elevated my complaint like 5 times now and gone through diagnostics over the phone with me like 10x.  I don't know if its an app issue or if there is something within the truck that isn't feeding correct info to the app, specifically the DEF Range.

I want to clarify that I don't get any warnings or popups in my vehicle cluster or dashboard...the ONLY issue is the app reporting DEF Range Low.

The DEF report on the app has never worked on my 2023.

The app always says def info is 'unavailable' or something like that. (doesn't say def low)

The DEF level page on the DIC does work.

It gave the '1000 miles to def empty' warning the other day.

iDash said the tank was at about 20-25%.

DIC def level indicator has the tiny segment and the first full size segment active, teh others off.

Today all segments on the DIC indicator are off, iDash says between 15 and 20%.

Truck ('23 LZO) has about 7200 miles on it.  I haven't added any DEF yet.

Plan to fill at a metered bulk pump in the next day or two.

Was planning to not fill until it gave the 'DEF empty' and '500 miles to speed limit' warnings, but that's not gonna work out this time.

redwngr, Did you ever find an answer to your DEF issues?  I just posted the thread about mine.  I have just about the same mileage as you did when you posted your thread.

I don't think I have a DEF  'issue', I have a myGMC phone app issue -- and it's always had issues in Canada.

Everything in the truck is still working fine.

The app on the phone still says DEF information unavailable.  (also doesn't give mpg info for my truck, buys does for her Acadia....).

I ended up not waiting til it gave the 'empty now' messages.

Def range was at 298 miles, all bars on def level indicator were 'off', iDash said level was 11%.

Filled with bulk in semi lanes at a FlyingJ.

C$25.43, 18.71L  -- so about US$18.60 / 4.94 usgal (so just under 2 jugs)

image.png.dd0a46fc65552ae7ceef064417dea940.png

I was expecting the DEF mileage to be 1200 - 1300.

We'll see if it repeats on the next fill.

I appreciate your reply.  I have the same issue as you and many others.  I don't know if it is the app, or the way data is given from the vehicle.  It would be nice if GM would fix it, but I won't hold my breath.

My bigger issue is the wrong reporting DEF level.  Dealership did a reset and data dump.  This seems to have corrected the panel warnings, but the DEF level still shows less than what is really in the tank.

    • So speaking of oil consumption with my L8T as I just changed the oil yesterday and made the switch over to Amsoil SS 0W-40 from the Mobil 1  5W-30 Truck and SUV I just dropped out. 2900 miles on that oil as well as  68 hours on that oil ( so used to equipment with an hour meter and that becomes valuable information to compare with others as well ). Once again the oil use was so very little, I am going to say it dropped under 1/16 of an inch on the dipstick. No towing was done and this interval was from early spring until now.    One interesting item to note is that going by the 5 quart jugs I was using before from Mobil, it was showing that I was putting in 8 US quarts to bring it to full if not slightly over the full mark according to their jug markings. Granted I did allow more drain time this time and in part because the engine oil was only lukewarm as I started it and let it idle and not for long enough to get the oil itself hot ( the engine was up to operating temp ). The oil in that state just seemed to take forever for it to drip out but not only at the drain plug but at the oil filter housing as well, perhaps I had never quite gotten all the oil out before and I could have still waited longer but as it was I waited well over 3 hours. I think next time if I have the time I will do an experiment by dropping the oil and lets say leave the pan under it for 15 minutes, then switch to another pail and let it drip out overnight and measure how much more oil comes out. So this time and yes I ended up getting it just over the full mark as I was experimenting with trying to get the level to the add mark after I had run it and then waited some and then added a bit and waited for a certain amount of time for it to settle to the add mark. I very well may not have waited long enough for that experiment but I got to the add mark, then dumped in a full quart and waited some and checked and then waited some more and it crept up more ... and then finally oops, it was slightly over full some hours later when it really had settled all it would. I find this engine sure takes time for the last bit of oil that gets poured in to finally make its way into the crank case. I can only guess at how much too much I added as per maybe a 1/10th of a quart. I had poured in 8.5 quarts going by the quart containers as per 8 quarts and 16 us ounces. I was shocked at how much this was off compared to the prior oil changes and if those larger jugs and they are not marked accurately enough or they contain slightly more than what they say, or the drain time factor made that much of a difference. But I know on this forum there have been others who have said they have put well over 8 quarts in their L8T and now I have also going by the Amsoil true quart containers. Its a confusing convoluted mess up here in Canada with some oil manufactures packaging is in true US quarts, some is also in true US quarts containers on an even number of quarts but also marked in liters which becomes the odd ball volume of a fractional amount of liters. Then there is the Liters only containers, no US markings as its a true metric container and only measured in Liters to an even number of Liters. But remember we used to have Imperial Gallons and Imperial quarts as well !.
    • Holy smokes. Clearly not a deal on that truck. I just mean in general, matte or painted trim is becoming more normative than chrome, but I know the Black Optics packages on various vehicles are being sold as uplevel trims. They look really good, but sheesh. It's just paint and plastic.
    • I Wouldn't Know Where to Begin    Oh I know where I would begin but I'm just one of over eight billion people on this rock. Eight billion versions of where the goal post is. How large it should be. How far to kick from. What ball is the right ball. Elevation. Age.....are you getting the point? It isn't about disagreeing with one individual. It's about agreeing only with one individual. One's self.   Agreement comes when multiple people hold the same point already. THAT is the goal of an education. Building the Social Contract. That thing that allows us to all read this sentence. We've agreed on the alphabet and how to arrange those letters into words we agree upon whose meanings hold true for everyone entering into that contract. Those words arranged into a sentence form an idea and several sentences strung together in a paragraph convey an argument for or against or inform the reader of a state, condition or perhaps reveal a things nature. Paint a word picture. Make oneself known.    This contract is not limited to words although they are often explained by words. Things like numbers and their usefulness. Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Music, Art and so on.    The frequency of middle C (C4) is 261.63 Hz is a first principle. We build on that to make music we all can enjoy even if we all can not compose or play. You don't have to master it to make it enjoyable and useful.    So why is the Beginning so difficult? Why is agreement so elusive?   Everyone "Signs" the contract (when receiving that education in obtaining it)  but fewer and fewer in this world have any intention of living by that contract. They find exploiting that contract more advantageous. Disruption. With intent. Without intent. In Ignorance. In your face. With a double dog dare you. With a hold my beer. In resistance to that contract and in spite how it looks on us. It permeates the very air we breath.    In this way the contract is subject to advantage. Abide by it when it serves you, disregard it when it doesn't. Unpredictable and self-serving. Corrosive.....Toxic........   It says a lot about a persons character to disregard the contract, the truth, first principles. None of it good.        ********************************************************   https://medicine.yale.edu/news-article/character-vs-personality-who-we-are-and-who-we-aspire-to-be/   Just an interesting article.
    • It costs $5,250 for the Yukon Nightfall option (black wheels, emblems and illuminated black GMC grill badge). What a "deal".
    • I keep getting the above error message on my 25 Sierra.  If I reset the infotainment unit (via the phone hang up button) it will work again for a day or 2.   But I dont want to do have to reset  all the time. Works fine in my 2023 Corvette. On both vehicles I connect wirelessly.   I have a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL, phone is up to date.  Any Ideas.  See attached
