2001 5.3 oil sending unit leak

Recommended Posts

You'll want to replace that unit immediately, you're engine will seize and be ruined should it run out of oil. The job requires a special socket available at A/P stores, a 3/8" ratchet, 1 or 2 universal joints and maybe 2 extensions (a 2" to 3" 3/8" extension and a 6" X 3/8" extension) a light of some kind, possibly an inspection mirror as the unit is very hard to see. Tighten the new unit,  but do not over tighten. The hardest part of the job is getting the plug back on. Try to tighten the unit so it's in the same clock position it was in when you started to remove it. This step is not essential, just helpful.
