I haven't seen much written about this online nor any videos addressing this yet, so please if anyone's come up with some good ideas please let me know. We recently bought a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 DRW with the gooseneck/5th wheel prep package specifically because we'd be towing a large 5er. Besides the debacle of GM making it the biggest pain in the butt to install/setup their proprietary trailer backup camera (if you've figured this dilemma out please comment on it), they placed the port for the camera on the bumper. If GM is offering a gooseneck/5er package, wouldn't it just make sense that the customer is going to be towing with that package? Wouldn't it then make sense that the trailer camera provisions be moved to the bed and not left on the bumper?

I think they put it on the bumper thinking it would serve the ball towed trailers and the fifth wheels in that location. But then, who really knows ? I would wager accounting had a bigger say in the decision than anyone else.

Search this forum as there is a whole write up on moving the camera port to the bed. Pretty easy really except you have to purchase 2 extender cables for camera that they even give you part number and where to get. I did it and its very nice. Its along the level of the invisible trailer option not working for 5th wheels with the earlier models. Cant make it work on my '21 but heard its fixed on the '24s

Add this to the list off dumb things GM did with these trucks, the gauge package is at the top of my list…. . I have the same truck in the GMC flavor and it was setup the same way. I have read they fixed the invisible trailer thing on 2024 and i have also read that it’s still ball pull only. Hard to know what to believe. Also dumb that the TPMS only works on some trailers, nothing with an axle to truck longer than 82’ or something like that and the sensors are not comparable with heavier trailers.

I expect neither feature to work on my 46’ 5er when we get it. so much for “pro grade”
