I have a 2024 Custom gasser with 9500 miles that has had issues with the safety sensors since the first day. At first, my parking sensors would show “Parking sensor blocked. See owners manual.” It does this the majority of the time, but not all the time.

Then, my issues got worse. My blindspot detection started working intermittently. Then, my lane departure sensors did the same. Works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn’t. The blindspot detection can work perfectly and then not pick up a semi-truck right beside it.

It’s been to the dealership 5 times, and they’ve had it the last three weeks. They say they can recreate the problems, but not long enough to diagnose them. They’ve done a full software update and have apparently went over everything multiple times. They aren’t sure the electrical issues can be fixed. They’re going to talk with GM about trying to switch me into a different truck, but I’m not optimistic.

I fear that my options will end up being to live with the bugs or take a loss, neither of which I think are reasonable since I bought a brand new truck with a full warranty. Anyone have any experience with something like this?

You need to tell your dealer to escalate your case. These types of problems are common and theres plenty of resources to diagnose intermittent electronics problems. It may be time to write the dealer a "last chance" letter and find a lemon lawyer if they dont want to do the hard work.

I know that my truck did not pass validation when it was built and it got pulled for repair because the cameras on the right side did not work. It turned out to be a pin in that harness that hadnt seated properly. Unfortunately the trucks have gotten very sophisticated electronically and dealer training hasnt kept up in my opinion. The diagnostics are pretty straightforward but it requires talent and patience that some techs dont posses.

Depending on your state's laws you might already be able to lemon law this. I had an issue with another truck I owned where the dealer essentially gave me the same deal as a lemon law case would have provided without actually going the lemon law route, so hopefully GM will agree to take the truck back without too much fuss.

That’s what my dealer is working on now. They aren’t positive, but they do seem optimistic.

Can I ask how this work for you? It seems like they’re basically saying they’ll discount another truck for me so that I’m not out anything. Would I have to get new or could I get a used one if the dealer has one I like? Could I potentially trade into a higher trim level? Thanks so much for any info.

That probably depends on whatever your dealer is willing to do. In my situation, they basically just gave me the cash value of the truck as credit and let me buy whatever I wanted from them (even offered to let me buy from another manufacturer owned by the same dealer) at invoice minus any rebates. I was originally going to get a higher trim of the same truck, but ended up getting my wife a new SUV as our "family vehicle" since I don't put a lot of miles on my truck.
