I have a 21 Yukon w almost 40k miles on it now and the rear end is having issues. At slow speeds after the vehicle has sat over night, the rear end locks up until we get a mile or 2 on it. After that, it drives normal. It makes a grinding whining noise like a 4wd making a 90° turn. Fluid was full as well.

Dealer called and said only the fluid has to be changed and no damage was done to the diff. I would've thought after all the grinding and whining noises sometimes would've been damaged. Is changing the fluid only putting a Bandaid on it?

I have a 2021 Tahoe. It had been making a noise for almost a year. The dealership kept saying they couldn’t get it to recreate the noise over and over again. At my last service the noise was really loud, they heard it and said that it just needed differential fluid changed. Brought vehicle home, noise was much worse and I was almost at my 60,000 mile warranty. Took Tahoe back to dealership and after 4 weeks it was determined it needs a new rear end. And now the issue is getting one because apparently none are in stock. Dealer offers no loaner cars, GM has no policy on rentals other than they may reimburse up to $50 per day. We are now on week 7, no rear end and car is still sitting. Very disappointing!!!

Here is the solution to this common problem i fixed my 2021 suburban with the following 3 products and saved thousands because after dealing with this problem for over a year i was going to buy a new differential but before I pulled the trigger I decided to give this cheap solution a try and it worked 100% i have zero noise or vibrations it drives perfect 👌 I love my car again. Make sure you get 2 bottles of the ACDelco 10-4091 because the differential fluid capacity is almost 2 quarts.
easy DIY project just need a little hand pump to put in the new fluid after draining the old fluid. drain plug is located at the bottom and fill up plug is at the back of the differential.

Dealerships are going to hate me for this tip Thank me later 😆

After 3 fluid changes with absolutely no improvement, they ordered a complete rear end.

Under warranty?  If not try my solution above

I have a 2021 Tahoe. It had been making a noise for almost a year.

Have a 2022 Chevy suburban, just had to have the rear differentials replaced only 50,000 miles. Made horrible grinding noises at low speed turning left or right.  My Chevy dealership said this is the fifth one they’ve had to do.
