Hi,

I found an old already-dried leak from the black hose (pic 1) above the oil filter when I changed the engine oil today. Looks like it dropped somewhat (pic 2) before being completely dried. I have not noticed any drops in my garage. Again, this leak must be old because it is very hard and all (in red & green color marks) dried when I touch it. What is it? Should I go to the dealer to check it? Mine is a 2022 1500 LTD LT 2.7T. Thanks.

The top of the pics is towards the front of the truck and the bottom is towards the rear.

The red is not a leak, its hardened polymer material from the electrical connection.  The green circle is identifying a current leak that can be seen on the oil temperature sensor mounting location.  The leak appears to be coming from the oil feed or oil return line for the turbo, both lines being mounted above the oil temperature sensor.  Each has its own gasket, but with a better picture I am certain we could probably tell you which one.

Thank you so much Gangly!!! I took more pics for a better pic but it is very narrow... it does not feel like a "leak" but some kind of rubber-like coating material..... It feels very similar to the hardened polymer material in red above. That in red might have dropped to in green when my truck was built?  I don't know why it is there... Again, otherwise, no other leak signs... weird. I appreciate your expertise. IMG_0305.thumb.jpg.54f1c4956d6f08df7aa5421ba260dd9d.jpgIMG_0307.thumb.jpg.ff6a41c205ad34cfd6672612be1069a1.jpgIMG_0309.thumb.jpg.31a94aaa43f587608b37e46556e77f37.jpgIMG_0309.thumb.jpg.31a94aaa43f587608b37e46556e77f37.jpgIMG_0341.thumb.jpg.ac4190aada5f9727933ade268f1c5293.jpgIMG_0344.thumb.jpg.00fdf82a23388a92f850e0e821949715.jpgIMG_0319.thumb.jpg.ebf76a5ba2b6de5b793889516a3bdc19.jpgIMG_0319.thumb.jpg.ebf76a5ba2b6de5b793889516a3bdc19.jpg

Interesting.

That cable is listed as the "battery negative extension cable".  The other end of that is secured to the lower right side of the firewall just above a ground strap mounting.

If I had to guess, and its path is what is leaked onto the oil filter housing, it could be during engine assembly when they attach that cable the sealer was still fresh?  And it dripped?  Again, just guessing.

I'd like to think that when the engines are assembled to bring to the plant, the wiring is all attached to the engine.  The vehicle plant workers then just mount all the truck side ends to the truck once the engine and frame assembly is mated to the vehicle.  So would have happened at the engine plant or if they dress the wiring at the vehicle plant, before the cab was married to the frame.

I would agree, that doesn't appear to be a leak, but a drip that occurred during assembly, and the fluid cured into a hardened surface on the oil filter housing.  Absolutely nothing to worry about.
