Oil Change

First time diesel owner, looking to do my second oil change on the truck,first one done at dealer(Free), what oil is everyone recommending on the l5p Duramax's. Thanks in advance

5-40 Rotella synthetic. I run it in almost everything.

Shell Rotela has a rebate going now on the T4,5 and 6 until sometime in May. You can get a 40-dollar rebate on a 3-gallon case of T6. If you are lucky enough to have a Menards close you also get their 11% rebate on it. Final cost is about 28 bucks for 3 gallons of T6.

Thats a screaming deal on Rotella T6

When you change oil, take the time to grease it. Good chance dealer didn't first oil change, service manager said it didn't call for it till 50,000 km , I lost it on my service manager, for 5 minutes time to grease. Note, I do my own oil changes now!

Of course he was probably correct...not needed until then assuming it was properly greased at the factory. I might do it but likely not super necessary unless it's on a severe service maintenance routine.

 

I know of people who are religious about lubing the suspension components but never think its worth changing brake fluid every 3 years which is WAY more important,
