Hello all, I am wondering if anyone here can help with a fix for my issue. I have spent some time googling over the last year or so as this has been an issue on and off, it seems this issue happens across any type of GM Vehicle.

my lines have gone which tell me where I’m going when I park. The screen displays the camera just fine, but there is a blue egg time in the top left corner and the button on the bottom right that toggles the lines view on and off is greyed out.

this has been happening for more or less the whole time since I got this refreshed 2022 in 2022 however recently the lines went and never came back, usually it fixes itself.

took it to a dealer and they didn’t help, simple answer was to blame it on my lift kit. They ignored the fact that it has been working for 90% of the time, It would just glitch once in a while, not often… but this time it’s not fixed itself

I have a GM Case open too, but it’s just hard work…

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

With the GM case, AND the dealership, be respectful and keep asking for 'help'. If they want to push back on the lift kit, and they likely will, ask if they can share any details as to how/why it would interfere. Explain that you want to know the details so you can discuss with the kit manufacturer to get their help as well.

Dealerships like to throw blame around but don't like to have to provide the details to justify their statements. The entire reason they don't want to cover it under warranty is because they want to charge YOU for the work (GM doesn't want to pay if they don't have to, and the dealership makes more profit on non-warranty work).

Just don't argue with them or let things get emotional. Stick to facts, remain calm, and keep expressing things in terms of "I need your help here".

Thank you for the reply! Attached here is the summary from the dealer. Basically I read this as, because I had the park assist retro fitted (chip shortage when I ordered the truck) they then had to recalibrate everything, which is why the lines don’t work.

the point which is being ignored is 1) this lines issue first happened 2 years ago, the park assist was installed in  November 2023. The lines have continued to work 90% of the time until last week. This is why I think they are wrong, and it’s also noting to do with the lift.

they mention a hard error in the system preventing the lines from displaying, which ‘cannot’ be cleared…

doesn’t add up to me! I’m wondering if they could just refresh? Recalibrate? Reboot the modules or something … they seemed unwilling to try, and told me I was lucky the camera even works with the truck this high up…

Ugh... Messy.

- Do you have any work orders for the lines disappearing PRIOR to Park Assist being added?

- PRIOR to the lift being installed?

Anything you can provide that shows that the problem occurred before anyone touched anything would possibly help you here.

They told you there's an error but the work order shown implies it's a "setting." Terminology matters... settings have configurable options, errors indicate problems / failures. Which is it?

It seems that the tech is acknowledging that installing the lift made no actual changes to the camera system. Once the Park Assist was installed, however, they had to re-calibrate the camera to account for the changed height of the truck. Why would raising the truck and adjusting the camera angle turn that feature off? And, can you PROVE that it worked after the Park Assist was installed at any point?

Dealership Service Writers are useless for discussing this stuff - they spew all kinds of bullshit that I swear they make up on the spot and clearly have absolutely no clue what they're talking about. The Service Manager is likely just as useless (the one at the dealership where I bought my truck tried arguing specific repair items with me claiming that GM was "never" going to address them yet I not only had them addressed, but had them addressed at -that- dealership).

Speaking to the Shop Foreman may get you some details, and the actual Tech as well. You could request through GM Customer Assistance to speak with either the Field Tech (or any field tech) or the District Manager that covers that dealership to better understand the details and the options. Anything that a Field Tech offers up is very likely backed by documented details that they could provide to you.

Unfortunately I never had any previous work orders for this - it was never something that could be recreated! It would happen one day, then seconds later go back into reverse and it would be fine again for months.

all of the explanation about the park assist was kinda pointless because, it happened on and off before, and on and off after, just for now, it seems to be off and not back on!

the fact it’s all over other forums makes me wonder what the issue really is!

it even says on the attached Cadillac bulletin ‘may be caused by a software anomaly’

just needs a ctrl+alt+delete and a reboot!!

The dealership has claimed that there's an error that "can't be cleared" and that would mean it will never work. So, all you need now is for it to work... Once... When you can get video of it working on your phone. Be sure to add commentary as to the time and date, and capture the mileage on your truck in the video. This would all potentially negate the "it will never work again" claim of the dealership.

As an aside... There's been a MASSIVE problem with GM's OTA updates for their trucks. I bought my truck in late October, there was an OTA update, and shortly after I started having weird error codes showing up and setting the Check Engine Light. The dealership dismissed it as "no code" (and they don't know how to troubleshoot without a code or a TSB that explicitly calls out the exact issue) and gave the truck back. On the way home, it "blew up" my dash with every error code known to mankind, reduced power, etc. They had to get TAC involved for very detailed troubleshooting (I took the truck back to them -immediately-) and determined that the Gateway Communication module had a corruption and needed to be re-flashed.

@2022LiftedRST Did you get any resolution to this? The dealer installed my leveling kit today and I noticed the same thing - no guidelines, disabled button for them, and the hourglass. Going to call tomorrow and see if they messed with any calibration, I can’t imagine that it can detect that it’s sitting a few inches higher. It’s a pickup, loading the bed or towing could just as easily affect its angle!

Or the setting got changed.

The are several selections available.

One of the options that can be selected is 'no guidance lines'

I don't know which one is the default.

This button on the far right that’s now disabled? Or is there some other system setting I haven’t found yet? 🤔

Hello!

I do indeed have an update!

a few weeks ago I had the front of the truck lowered back down a bit to stop a vibration I had, and the camera lines came back and have worked as normal for 95% of the time since

looks like the dealer was right! The truck was too high. I was about 12” lift on the front. I switched to adjustable struts and the shop I go to recons they lowered it back down 2-3 inches or so.

sometimes my lines disappear for a day or so, but I’m guessing that’s due to the fact I’m still around a 10” lift on 37s so that must be close to the limit for the camera knowing where it is.

For example I parked last night with my lines. Woke up this morning they had vanished for the first time in a while.. home again now and the lines are back

give your lines a few days to see what they want to do 🙂

I got used to life with no lines, would rather have a bigger truck than the lines 😂

I only went up ~3.5" (including tires) and kept a little rake, nowhere near 10" and 37s. I haven't unloaded the old tires from the bed yet, hopefully that makes it happy.

Lol same, I wouldn't want to go back, but damn...I really like that feature. Stupid computers. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Same is happening to me no guidelines since vehicle got lifted front 1.5inch and rear 1inch so my truck is almost leveled, i will try to replicate that solution by lowering air pressure in front tires and increase in the rear. I'm wondering if it has to be something with vehicle level or just a raised front.

I purchased a 2025 Silverado 1500 LTZ. Most often the grid lines for the backup camera are not visible. I also noticed an hourglass at the top left corner of the camera display. The button to enable grid lines is grayed out. Now, on a rare occasion the system loads, the hour glass is gone and the grid lines are visible as it should be. I took it to the dealership and they didn’t know what to do about it and said “give it some time”, so I waited a month and as expected no change. I called the dealership again and they said to call GM Customer Support. GM Customer Support said to take it to the dealership so they could open a case. I now have another appointment, but I have zero faith that anybody has a clue what to do.

    • www.enginelabs.com/news/what-i-learned-today-bearing-clearances-vs-oil-viscosities/     www.enginelabs.com/news/oil-viscosity-can-the-numbers-be-misleading/ The Big Lie… Coming full circle to the reason Lake discusses the Porsche engines in particular. Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far.
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install.
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
