I just bought a 2019 GMC 2500. It came with 2 remotes and one key. One remote is a very worn factory remote, locks/unlocks fine. The other remote is made by Python. The lock and unlock buttons don't do anything. The "AUX" button doesn't do anything. Much to my surprise, the red star button that looks like a panic button, is actually remote start. And it works!

What is going on here? Did somebody install an aftermarket remote start? I have to use two different remotes to lock or to start it. The factory remote does not have the start button. The factory window sticker does not say anything about remote start option. Everything else on this truck is 100% stock, it was a lease vehicle.

Could it be possible to get a factory fob with the correct buttons and program that to work? I have no idea where to even look at this thing, they lost me in the electronics around 20 years ago. Or maybe I should be getting the Python system to open the locks?!

You can get an oem key fob and go through the procedures to pair it with your vehicle… you will need to have the original worn remote as well.

or go to a dealer and pay the $$$$ for them to do it.

Python is a aftermarket remote start and from what your describing the previous owner installed the system so even though you get a factory remote fob with the factory remote start function it will not work with the Python remote start. The truck didn't come with factory remote start that's why the previous owner installed aftermarket.

Makes sense. It lived in Colorado, so much more useful than here in NC. :) Where would I look to find the Python module? Maybe a model number or something could help. I can ditch the factory remote, and just use the Python - if I can make the lock/unlock work!

I'm good with wiring, not so much with "electronics". I'm starting to think I might be old...
