Hey Everyone,

This question has been brought up to me and i was just curious what you would do if you had the situation..

If you were big into doing stuff to your truck/car and if you had the chance to do all you wanted to do to your vehicle would you or would you build it over time?

Now its not like you won the lottery or someone gave you the money because its comming out of your pocket...

So....

If you could would you do everything at once to your vehicle or do it all over time?

I have the chance to do basically everything to my truck... *like brush guard, lights, wheels, suspension, etc...* but when you think about it.. it would be better off being done during time..

What do you all think????????

Do it over time, not all at once.  Doing it in sections will allow you to find little bugs and fix them before they become big bugs when more stuff is added on.

depends on what i want at the time.. say i had a stock height truck and it came time to lift it. i would have to lift it, change gearing, and get new tires and rims at about the same time.. other wise things dont work right.. lift and stock tires would look like crap... stock gearing and bigger tires sucks.. etc etc etc.  like i said depends on what i'm doing.

I like doing it a little at a time. Kind of like a project that is never done. That gives you time to look at different products and compare so you get what is right for your application. That is important to me because a bad mod can be more costly to fix then what it originally cost to install.

I enjoy doing most things my self so I'd do a project and then move on to the next project. I don't think it would end. I'd just continue to have fun playing with the truck. Interesting question.

Hey,

I m leaning both ways right now..  I want to get all my lighting equipment right now.. which means for me a safari bar w/lights, headlight upgrade, roll bar/light bar w/lights, and euro tails, but i have my heart set on a set of American Racing Baja 15x8's so then it gets a little pricy to do all..

I think i ll continue doing all my lighting now and save the rims/tires for when i do the lift... *which is the next project :)*

Thanks for the quick replies

I've done it both ways...all at once gives you the advantage of having everything all at once, brand new, and has the most impact.  BUT, it can take a LONG time (4+ years on the Corvette) and alot of money, and the vehicle may be down for a long time depending on what you are doing (engine mods, paint and body, etc).

I am doing my Suburban bit by bit, which is nice because I can still drive it everyday, and I get a little shot of visual or driving impact every time I mod it.

In your case it shouldn't matter much, the truck won't be off the road very long, it really comes down to time and money.

If we're talking "cosmetic" mods, like I've recently done with my truck, I chose to do it all at once.  I had an idea of what I wanted it to look like and had some room on the Visa, so I figured do it all now so it doesn't look half done.  When I realized the safari rack wasn't going to give me the look I wanted, it was off within 6 hours.  When the topper with stock tires had an old man's fishin' truck look, I immediately put on new tires and wheels even though originally those weren't going to happen till this winter.

If we're talking "performance" mods, I say over time.  I have a hard time replacing stock intakes, exhaust, ignitions, etc. when they are still working fine.  I'll replace those with aftermarket when they need replacing.  Prior to this truck I had an '84 CJ-7 that I worked on for years.  2 days after I installed a new grill guard and seats, I rolled it and was never able to recoup all the time and money I had invested :( I was also stuck with a few things I hadn't installed.  Maybe that's why I prefer to do it all at once!

Hey,

I will admitt that the main reason i wanted to do everything was for the impact of the finished product..

But like my parents said "Isnt your truck a hobby to you??"

I ll start off small for now and work my way up.. maybe in a year i ll change my mind and do everything at once..

Plus it gives me a chance to do the installs myself instead of buying everything at once and it looks like a store built truck..

In a perfect world, I'd do it all at once.  But then reality would set in and I'd realize I should have done it gradually so as to not go too crazy w/o any 'checks and balances'.  Rome wasn't built in a day, so the ultimate rig shouldn't be either.
