In the market for a Yukon XL/Suburban. Debating between new/certified.

If we find one certified (or a good deal on a dealers lot) without the Max Towing Package, how easily can that be added and at what cost?

Some would be nearly impossible.

Hardware that mechanically improves towing capacity in the package would be the enhanced radiator and trailer brake controller, in some unique instances a two-speed transfer case might be useful, but not likely for highway use.

You can add an aftermarket trailer brake controller easily.

You could add a larger radiator, but I wouldn't unless conditions warrant it.

Copy that. I figured that was the case when I saw the xfer case on there after I posted this earlier this morning. I can handle a radiator swap, that's pretty easy, but not too intimately familiar with a xfer case. Sounds more hassle than it's worth.
We'll look for one with the package already installed. Thank you for the help.

If you want/need the max towing package buy something that already has it. While you can add the parts, you can't legally tow more than the vehicle was able to when it left the factory. The only time this is likely to come into play is if you were over the max designed capacity of the vehicle but under what it would be with max towing package and had an accident.

Not looking to tow more than it says on the door jam sticker.

The additional items would be nice to have, like the brake controller, etc.

The upgraded cooling systems are mostly what I was after, heat kills.

Never forget that Suburbans are sought simply for their towing capabilities.

The max towing package will add resale value to any Suburban.

If you have to pay more (and/or shop longer) for a Suburban with max towing, it will bring back more money in the future if/when you choose to sell it.
