Adding Transmission Temp Gauge

Recommended Posts

I would like to add the Factory Trans Temp Gauge to my 2000 1500 Silverado. Anyone here done this? If so, could you give me any pointers and part numbers. TIA.

Well, I failed with the search on my sent mail, google-search, and a search here. There is a guy who sells just the temperature gauge and the overlay for it. I found out about him HERE during the summer of 2003. Basically, you just take your existing instrument cluster and install the guage. The cluster typically already has the voltages for the transmission temperature guage present. I did the install and it simply "boringly" works and is certainly far cheaper than replacing the cluster, getting it flashed with your current mileage, etc.

But, for all my searches, I can't find or remember this guy's web site name. Since I was told about it here, maybe whoever told me about it will comment it again.

Pewter Pro-Tec, you found it. The transport truck with the Corvette as the prize will be showing up at your house!:D I search all over my computer and old messages for that site and couldn't find it. grrrrr

asilverblazer, the circuit already is hot and active on your cluster. All you do is use a solder sucker and remove solder that is in the mount holes of your instrument cluster for the pins, insert the new gauge, solder the pins. You then add the overlay that is provided as part of the kit. Reassemble the cluster's cosmetics and you are set.

Pewter Pro-Tec graciously found the site. Go there. If you really wanted to fix things up, go ahead and purchase a full overlay. The gauge and total overlay would be cheaper than buying a new instrument cluster, and you wouldn't have to have the mileage transferred.

For what it is worth, these gauges are referred to as "motors" and they are all identical, whether they are for the speedometer, temp gauges, fuel, oil, etc. Jason Baker of US_Speedo will work with you. He is a very nice guy. I just cannot believe I blanked out on recalling him and his site.

And, he has some very nice products.

Are you looking for this?

Get it, you wont regret the look of it. And it has a tranny temp gauge, so you dont have to cut anything. Plug and play. :D

lrymal,

Please make sure the Vette is silver

How easy was it to install the gauge?

I don't mind soldering, but if the solder joints are very small, I might have some difficulty with my inherent clumsiness.

Flodine,

That is what I have in my truck. I love it. Looks much better than stock!!

I know! It looks awesome! I wanted something different than white face gauges.

Well, yeah...., that is the nature of a modification such as this. You need to know soldering techniques and to be comfortable with the whole thing. You are saving so much money, though, and will be maintaining a VERY factory appearance. It would be worth contracting with a pal, if you had to do.
