How bad is it?

My check engine light came on and according to my OBD II scanner it is cod P2002: Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold.

I assume it won't be covered under the 100,000 Mile drive train warranty (I'm just over three years and currently sitting at 36,075 miles).

Aside from the fact that the two dealerships I've called have at least three week wait before a diesel can even get looked at...

Is this something that should go to a dealership? Or could any mechanic shop handle this?

Could it possibly be a warranty issue?

Is this possibly an easy fix, or it it going to cost a lot?

Any one out there have any experience with this code?

Any input is appreciated.

There is also an emissions warranty.

Why do you think it won't be covered?

Thank you for bringing that up. I wasn't aware (or forgot) that was a separate warranty.

Hopefully it does fall under the 'select emissions-related' category and is covered.

  • Emissions-related components are warranted for 2 years of 24,000 miles, whichever comes first
  • Select emissions-related components are warranted for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first. Covered components include: catalytic converters, engine control module, transmission control module and other diagnostic-emissions-critical electronic control units

That does give me a little hope, and with that, I suppose my best option is to put it in line at the dealership and let them diagnose the problem.

And be sure you're looking the dmax warranty.

It's often different from the warranty for the gas engines.
