I should of said "My" redneck award of 2024. Ever since I bought my 2017 Silverado with 5.3 V-8, I struggled with reaching the doggone oil dip stick. Have get on my tiptoes & press against the fender to be able to remove it to check oil level. After many online searches I came up empty handed. Well I'm here to tell you that this 77 year old Jarhead "Improvised Adapted & Overcame" that issue, which I feel earned me the Redneck of the Year ribbon to go with my Vietnam CAR (combat action ribbon) LOL.....pictures says it all!20241127_125915.thumb.jpg.f0c0ed4389d29ca1fb7290b3cba6b2c3.jpg

Thats actually pretty cool. You got an idea on how to avoid dropping the oil cap? I have dropped that about every time i check my oil.

Are you talking about the "oil fill cap"? If so, just update it to this

If youre replacing the oil fill tube on the newer trucks watch out when removing the original one. My 24 had a locking tab on it that broke off inside the valve cover. I noticed it was missing and went looking for it and it was laying inside next to one of the rockers. I ended up having to extract it with a piece of 1/2" tubing connected to my shop vac. I made sure the part looked complete after retrieving the piece so I was sure nothing else fell in there.

Yes, you are correct. a common issue when changing the fill tube. It happened to me too. I removed the Valve Cover to retrieve the broken plastic.
